Rebel Moon – Parte 2: A Marcadora de Cicatrizes – Previsível e Entediante

Kora retorna para Veldt com o fazendeiro Gunnar e os guerreiros Titus, Nemesis, Darrian Bloodaxe e Tarak. Titus comanda a defesa dos fazendeiros e pede para eles colherem os grãos e usá-lo para proteger suas casas.

Enquanto estão esperando por Atticus Noble e seus homens, eles revelam seus passados esperando pelo confronto com as forças do império.

Conforme eu mencionei em minha crítica sobre a primeira parte, Rebel Moon usa a storyline de “Os Sete Samurais” adaptado para uma ficção científica.

“Rebel Moon – Parte 2: A Marcadora de Cicatrizes“, contudo, é uma aventura previsível e maçante que segue o padrão da Netflix (um guerreiro preto, uma guerreira asiática, um guerreiro gay e uma poderosa – mas desta vez feia e que parece um homem andrógino – guerreira mulher).

A trama entrelaça o passado de cada um para completar o padrão de duas horas deste tipo de filme no Netflix.

Os pacíficos fazendeiros derrotarem o império, com armas e tanques, é um pouco demais, não? O que vale a pena ver são os efeitos especiais magníficos. Minha nota é seis.

Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver (2024)

Predictable and Boring

Kora (Sofia Boutella) returns to Veldt with the farmer Gunnar (Michiel Huisman) and the warriors Titus (Djimon Hounsou), Nemesis (Bae Doona), Darrian Bloodaxe (Ray Fisher) and Tarak (Staz Nair). Titus commands the defense of the farmers and asks them to harvest the grains and use them to protect their homes. While waiting for Atticus Noble (Ed Skrein) and his men, they disclose their pasts waiting for the showdown with the mother world’s force.

As I mentioned in my review of Part One, Rebel Moon uses the storyline of “Seven Samurai” adapted to a sci-fi. “Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver!, however, is a predictable and boring adventure that follows the Netflix’s standard (one black warrior, one Asian warrior, one gay warrior, a powerful – but this time, not beautiful that looks like an androgynous man – lead woman). The plot entwins the past of each other in order to complete the two hours’ time schedule. The pacific farmers win the empire, with weapons, tanks is a little too much, isn’t it? The worthwhile thing to see are the magnificent special effects. My vote is six.

Dezesseis Facadas (2023) – Bobinho, mas Divertido

Em 1987, a cidade de North Venon é atacada por um serial-killer que esfaqueia dezesseis vezes três adolescentes de dezesseis anos dia sim, dia não.

Em 2023, North Venon celebra os trigésimo quinto aniversário do notório “Sweet Sixteen Killer” e o local Chris Dubasage faz um tour com turistas que querem ver os locais onde os assassinatos ocorreram.

No Halloween, Jamie Hughes, de dezessete anos e sua amiga Amelia Creston querem ir à um show de rock e a mãe de Jamie, Pamela “Pam” Hughes, pede aos seu marido Blake Hughes para levá-las ao show.

Enquanto está sozinha em casa, Pam é atacada pelo Sweet Sixteen Killer, que retorna a cidade. Jamie sente a morte da mãe e Amelia está construindo uma máquina do tempo que sua mãe Lauren Creston inicious quando era adolescente.

Agora ela quer evitar que a morte das três adolescentes ocorra e encontrar o assassino para salvar sua mãe no futuro. Mas ela precisa que Lauren conserte a máquina do tempo para ela voltar para 2023.

“Dezesseis Facadas” (2023) é um filme bobinho, mas divertido que mistura comédia, slasher e ficção científica. A trama é uma espécie de combinação de “De Volta para o Futuro”, “O Efeito Borboleta” e “Halloween” para adolescentes.

O tipo de piadas é idiota para adultos (muitas piadas de chupada e maconha), mas de qualquer forma, o filme não é totalmente ruim.

Certamente os clichés de filmes de terror estão presentes a maior parte do tempo. A comparação da piadas de 2023 e 1987, tais como pessoas fumando, tratamento das mulheres etc, é a melhor parte do filme. Minha nota é seis.

Totally Killer (2023)

Silly, but Entertaining

In 1987, the town of North Venon is attacked by a serial-killer that stabs sixteen times each of three sixteen-year-old teenagers every other day. In 2023, North Venon celebrates the thirty-fifth anniversary of the notorious “Sweet Sixteen Killer” and the local Chris Dubasage (Jonathan Potts) makes a tour with tourists that want to see the places where the murders occurred. In the Halloween, the seventeen-year-old Jamie Hughes (Kiernan Shipka) and her friend Amelia Creston (Kelcey Mawema) want to go to a rock concert, and Jamie’s mother Pamela “Pam” Hughes (Julie Bowen) asks her husband Blake Hughes (Lochlyn Munro) to drive the girls to the show. While alone at home, Pam is attacked and murdered by the Sweet Sixteen Killer that returns. Jamie grieves the loss of her mother and Amelia is building a time machine that her mother Lauren Creston (Kimberly Huie) began when she was a teenager. Out of the blue, the Sweet Sixteen Killer hunts Jamie down and she hides inside the time machine. When he tries to stab her, he misses and hits the control panel. The conductivity of the steel of the blade makes the machine work properly and Jamie travels to 1987. Now she wants to avoid the killing of the three teenagers and find who the killer is to save her mother in the future. Further, she needs that Lauren fix the machine to return to 2023.

“Totally Killer” (2023) is a silly, but entertaining movie of comedy, slasher and sci-fi. The plot is a sort of combination of “Back to the Future”, “The Butterfly Effect” and “Halloween” for teens. The type of jokes is idiotic for adults (too many BJs and marijuana jokes) but anyway they are not so bad. Of course, there are the usual cliches of horror movies most of the time. The comparison of 2023 and 1987 jokes, such as people smoking, treatment to women etc. are the best part of this film. My vote is six.

Dune (2021) – Excelente Versão

No futuro, o planeta Arrakis dos Fremen que é rico na valiosa especiaria é explorado pela cruel Casa Harkonnen. O Imperador da Galáxia designa o Duque Leto Atreides para substituir Harkonnen em Arrakis.

Entretanto, a Casa Harkonnen festá tramando com o Imperador e os Sardaukar destruir a Casa Atreides e retomar Arrakis.

A concubina de Leto e mãe de Paul Atreides, Lady Jessica Atreides, é da tribo Bene Gesserit e treina Paul para desenvolver seus poderes e o guerreiro Gurney Halleck ensina a ele como lutar.

A Casa Atreides chega em Arrakis e logo eles são atacados pelos Harkonnen e Sardaukar, e somente Jessica esobrevivem.

Agora Paul tentará se unir aos Fremen para depor o Imperador e trazer paz para Arrakis.

“Dune” (2021) é provavelmente a melhor das três versões do romance de Frank Herbert.

As atuações são excelentes, destacando-se Rebecca Ferguson e Timothée Chalamet apesar da pequena diferença de idade para serem mãe e filho.

Os efeitos especiais são magníficos e a trama e bem explicada. No aguardo da sequência desta primeira parte. Minha nota é oito.

Excellent Version

In the future, the planet Arrakis of the locals Fremen that is rich in the valuable spice is exploited by the cruel Harkonnen family. The Emperor of the Galaxy assigns Duke Leto Atreides (Oscar Isaac) to replace the Harkonnen House in Arrakis. However, the Harkonnen family is plotting with the Emperor and the Sardaukar to destroy the House Atreides and take Arrakis back. Leto’s concubine and mother of Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet), Lady Jessica Atreides (Rebecca Ferguson), is from the Bene Gesserit tribe, trains Paul to develop his powers, and the warrior Gurney Halleck (Josh Brolin) teaches him how to fight. The House Atreides arrives in Arrakis and soon they are attacked by the Harkonnen and Sardaukar, and only Jessica and Paul survive. Now Paul will try to join the Fremen to overthrow the Emperor and bring peace to Arrakis.

“Dune” (2021) is probably the best of the three versions of Frank Herbert’s novel. The performances are excellent, highlighting Rebecca Ferguson and Timothée Chalamet despite their short difference of ages to be mother and son. The special effects are top-notch, and the plot is well-explained. Looking forward to seeing the sequel. My vote is eight.

Jung_E (2023) – Um Decepcionante Desperdício de Fantásticos Efeitos Especiais

No futuro, a Terra é somente habitada por trabalhadores que constroem armas e partes de Inteligência Artificial, devido as mudanças climáticas.

A população se mudou para abrigos entre a Terra e a Lua, porém três deles se declaram República Adrien e declaram guerra civil contra a Terra e outros abrigos.

Na Terra, o laboratório Kronoid desenvolve armas para a guerra. Atualmente eles estão usando o cérebro da mercenária falecida Capitã Jung_E, uma heroína local que morreu em sua última batalha.

A chefe do laboratório é sua filha Seo Hyun e o diretor é um político metido a engraçado Sang-Hoon. Contudo, o protótipo de Jung_E sempre falha no mesmo ponto da simulação, e os cientistas não sabem a razão.

A melodramática ficção científica coreana “Jung_E” é um decepcionante desperdício de efeitos especiais espetaculares.

A trama tem algumas boas ideias, tais como a utilização de cérebros de pessoas falecidas para desenvolvimento de I.A., mas em geral é chato e irritante.

A longa história contada no início do filme é apenas um pano de fundo e o filme nunca mostra a batalha entre a República de Adrien e as forças aliadas. É limitada apenas ao drama de Seo Hyun no laboratório.

Uma pergunta: por que desenvolver um soldado de inteligência artificial para lutar e que sente dor? Minha nota é cinco.

Jung_E (2023)

A Deceptive Waste of Stunning Special Effects

In the future, Earth is only habitable by workers that build weapons and parts of A.I. due to the weather changes. The population moved to shelters between Earth and the Moon, but three of them nominate themselves Adrien Republic and declare a civil war to Earth and the other shelters. On Earth, the laboratory Kronoid develops weapons to the war. Presently they are using the brain of the deceased mercenary Captain Jung_E (Kim Hyun-joo), a local hero that died in her last battle. The chief of the laboratory is her daughter Seo Hyun (Kang Soo-youn) and the director is a political and unfunny man named Sang-Hoon (Ryu Kyung-Soo). However, the prototype of Jung_E always fails in the same point of the simulation, and the scientists do not know the reason why.

The melodramatic Korean sci-fi “Jung_E” is a deceptive waste of stunning special effects. The plot has a few good ideas, such as the use of the brain of deceased persons to develop A.I., but in general is boring and annoying. The long story told in the beginning of the movie is a background only and the film never shows the battle between the Adrien Republic and the allies. Is limited to the drama of Seo Hyun in the laboratory. A question: why develop an A.I. soldier to fight feeling pain? My vote is five.

Rebel Moon – Parte 1: A Menina do Fogo (2023) – Divertida e Subavaliada Aventura de Ficção Científica

No planeta Veldt, uma colônia agrícola pacífica é visitada pelo cruel Almirante Atticus Noble do Império da Motherworld com seus soldados.

Ele informa aos colonos que eles estão caçando os irmãos rebeldes Devra e Darrian Bloodaxe, e se oferece para comprar o excedente em grãos da colônia.

Entretanto, seu líder Sindri recusa a oferta e diz que a produção deles não é suficiente para seu povo. Contudo, o ambicioso Gunnar contradiz Sindri e diz para Noble que eles podem ter um excedente para vender para ele.

Noble mata Sindri e diz para Gunnar providenciar sua produção em dez semanas. Ele parte de Veldt mas deixa uma tropa para checar a colheita.

Quando os soldados pegam a garota Sam para violentá-la, a colona Kora a protege e mata todos eles. Kora alerta os moradores que Noble voltará para destruir a aldeia deles, quando souber o que aconteceu.

Ela vai para o porto de Providence com Gunnar para recrutar o General Titus e seu exército para defender sua aldeia. Eles se deparam com o criminoso Kai, que oferece sua nave para trazer Titus.

Durante sua jornada, ele oferece dois guerreiros para lutarem com eles, em uma viagem de revelações, traições e amizade.

“Rebel Moon – Parte 1: A Menina do Fogo” é uma aventura de ficção científica divertida e subavaliada do Netflix.

A storyline é uma mistura de “Os Sete Samurais” com “Jornada nas Estrelas”, apoiada por fotografia e CGI magníficos.

Mas nos dias atuais é difícil ver um filme original, pois a maioria deles é influenciado por storylines anteriores. O roteiro é bem razoável, entrelaçando flashbacks ao longo do desenvolvimento da trama.

O tirânico vilão é excelente, mas a conclusão desaponta quando ele é resgatado. A existência de inimigos invencíveis é irritante em qualquer filme. Minha nota é sete.

Entertaining and Underrated Sci-Fi Adventure

In Veldt, a peaceful farmer colony is visited by the cruel Admiral Atticus Noble (Ed Skrein) of the Imperium from the Motherworld with his soldiers. He tells the villagers that they are hunting down the rebel siblings Devra (Cleopatra Coleman) and Darrian Bloodaxe (Ray Fisher) and offers to buy the village’s surplus grain. However, their leader Sindri (Corey Stoll) refuses the offer and says that their production is not enough for his people. However, the ambitious Gunnar (Michiel Huisman) contradicts Sindri and tells to Noble that they might have surplus to sell to him. Noble kills Sindri and tells Gunnar to provide all their production in ten weeks. The he departs from Veldt but leaves a troop to check their harvest. When the soldiers catch the girl Sam (Charlotte Maggi) to gang-rape her, the villager Kora (Sofia Boutella) protects her and kills them all. Kora warns the villagers that Noble will return to destroy their village when he learns what happened and departs to the port of Providence with Gunnar to recruit General Titus (Djimon Hounsou) and his army to defend their village. They stumble upon the criminal Kai (Charlie Hunnam) that offers his ship to bring Titus. During their journey, he offers two warriors to fight with them, in a journey of revelations, betrayals and friendship.

“Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire” is an entertaining and underrated sci-fi adventure by Netflix. The storyline is a mix of “Seven Samurais” with “Star Wars”, supported by a magnificent cinematography and CGI. But presently it is hard to see an original movie, since most of them are influenced by previous storylines. The screenplay is very reasonable, entwinning flashbacks along the development of the plot. The tyrannic villain is excellent, but the conclusion disappoints when he is rescued. The existence of Invincible enemies are annoying in any movie. My vote is seven.

A Noite das Bruxas (2023) – Quem É o Assassino?

Em 1947, em Veneza, Hercule Poirot está aposentado e morando isolado, protegido pelo seu guarda-costas, o ex-policial Vitale Portfoglio, que impede qualquer estranho de contatar Poirot.

A famosa escritora de livros de mistério, Ariadne Oliver, convida Poirot a ir à uma festa de Halloween e sessão espírita para expor como fraudulenta ou validar a médium Joyce Reynolds, que era enfermeira na guerra.

A festa é no palácio da cantora de ópera Rowena Drake, que interrompeu sua carreira quando sua amada filha Alicia Drake se suicidou após seu noivo Maxime Gerard cancelar o noivado deles.

O palácio era um orfanato no passado e posteriormente um local com a peste, e tem a reputação que espíritos matam enfermeiras e médicos que entrem nele.

Rowena convidou Joyce para contatar Alicia, e junto com o cético e ateu Poirot e seu guarda costas, as seguintes pessoas comparecem à sessão espírita:

O ex-noivo de Alicia, chef Maxine; o médico da família de Rowena, Dr. Leslie Ferrier e seu filho, Leopold Ferrier; a empregada doméstica Olga Seminoff; e a assistente de Joyce, Desdemona Holland.

Durante a sessão, Poirot descobre que Joyce é uma fraude, expondo seu segundo assistente que está escondido na chaminé, e confronta ela.

Ela deixa sua capa, capuz e máscara para trás e Poirot sozinho. Ele veste suas roupas e máscara dela e, enquanto está brincando de pegar maçãs em uma bacia, alguém tenta afogá-lo.

Logo Joyce é empalada em uma estátua, e Poirot e uma tempestade isolam o palácio, e ele investiga quem é o assassino de Joyce.

Há explicações para todas as situações e a conclusão é inesperada. Em geral, “A Noite das Bruxas” é um filme divertido. Minha nota é sete.

A Haunting in Venice (2023)

Who Is the Killer?

In 1947, in Venice, Hercule Poirot (Kenneth Branagh) is retired and recluded, and protected by his bodyguard, the former police officer Vitale Portfoglio (Riccardo Scamarcio), who stops any stranger from contacting him. The famous mystery writer Ariadne Oliver (Tina Fey) invites Poirot to attend a Halloween party and a séance to expose as a fraud or validate the medium Joyce Reynolds (Michelle Yeoh), who was a nurse in the war. The party is at the palace of the opera singer Rowena Drake (Kelly Reilly), who stopped singing when her beloved daughter Alicia Drake (Rowan Robinson) committed suicide after her fiancé Maxime Gerard (Kyle Allen) called off their engagement. The palace was an orphanage and a place with plague in the past and has the reputation that spirits kill nurses and doctors that come inside. Rowena invited Joyce to contact Alicia, and in addition to the skeptical and atheist Poirot and his bodyguard, the following persons attend the séance: Alicia’s former fiancé, Chef Maxine; Rowena’s family doctor Dr. Leslie Ferrier (Jamie Dornan) and his son Leopold Ferrier (Jude Hill); her housekeeper Olga Seminoff (Camille Cottin); and Joyce’s assistant Desdemona Holland (Emma Laird). During the séance, Poirot finds that Joyce is a fraud, exposing her second assistant hidden in the chimney and confronts her. She leaves her cloak, hood and mask behind and Poirot alone. He wears her clothes and mask and while bobbing for apples, someone tries to drown him. Soon Joyce is impaled on a statue and Poirot and a storm isolate the palace while he investigates who the killer of Joyce is.

“A Haunting in Venice” is the last adventure of Inspector Hercule Poirot performed by Kenneth Branagh. The screenplay is well-written, supported by a great cinematography and locations. The plot is a mix of suspense, comedy of errors  and supernatural, with strange situations. The characters could have been better developed in the beginning, but the writer used flashbacks instead. There are explanations to every situation and the conclusion is unexpected. In general, “A Haunting in Venice” is an entertaining film. My vote is seven.

Besouro Azul (2023) – Grande Decepção

Após de graduar e, Direito, Jaime Reyes volta para Palmera City para rever sua família e logo ele deacobre que eles estão quebrados e serão despejados de sua casa.

Sua irmã Milagro consegue um emprego de limpeza para ele na mansão da milionária Victoria Kord.

Entretanto, eles são despedidos por Victoria Susan quando Jaime se mete em uma discussão entre Victoria e sua sobrinha Jenny Kord.

Quando Jaime está deixando a casa, Jenny pede para ele procurá-la na Torre da Kord para dar um emprego para ele.

Na manhã seguinte, Jenny descobre que sua tia esta usando un antigo escaravelho para desenvolver armas poderosas e ela fouba o artefato.

Neste meio tempo, Jaime está procurando por ele para ganhar um emprego, e ela o usa para deixar a Torre com o escaravelho escondido em uma embalagem de hamburger de delivery.

Sua família mexicana xereta abre a caixa e Jaime se torna hóspede de um besouro alienígena e eles se fundem, tornando uma arma poderosa.

Jaime procura por Jenny para pedir explicações e se torna o Besouro Azul. Ela conta para ele que eles tem que remover o dispositivo o mais rápido possível; caso contrário, a fusão será permanente.

Eu tinha expectativas de ver “Besouro Azul” principalmente por causa da atriz brasileira Bruna Marquezine em um papel principal.

Contudo, o filme é uma grande decepção, com um roteiro longo e ruim sobre um outro super-herói desconhecido. A tola e ridícula família mexicana estraga o filme todo com seu comportamento idiota.

É irritante vê-los e ouvi-los, e parece ser uma crítica ao comportamento das famílias mexicanas em particular e famílias latinas em geral, com uma visão preconceituosa do autor.

O humor não funciona e não tem graça na verdade. E baseado no “gancho” da conclusão, parece que os produtores pretendem fazer uma sequência. Minha nota é quatro.

Blue Beetle (2023)

Great Disappointment

After graduating in the law school, Jaime Reyes (Xolo Maridueña) returns to Palmera City to meet his family, and soon he learns that they are broken and evicted from their home. His sister Milagro (Belissa Escobedo) gets a cleaning job for him at the mansion of the wealthy Victoria Kord (Susan Sarandon). However, they are both fired by Victoria when Jaime interferes in a discussion between Victoria and her niece Jenny Kord (Bruna Marquezine). When Jaime is leaving the house, Jenny asks him to look for her in the Kord Tower for a job opportunity. On the next morning, Jenny learns that her aunt is using an ancient alien Scarab to develop powerful weapons and she steals the artifact. Meanwhile, Jaime is looking for her to get a job, and she uses him to leave the Tower with the scarab hidden in a burger to-go box. His curious Mexican family opens the box and Jaime becomes the host of the alien scarab and they fuse in a powerful weapon. Jaime looks for Jenny to have explanations but he turns into the Blue Beetle. She tells him that they have to remove the device as soon as possible; otherwise, the fusion will be permanent.

I had expectations to see “Blue Beatle” mainly because of the Brazilian actress Bruna Marquezine in a lead role. However, the film is a great disappointment, with a terrible and long screenplay about another unknown superhero. The silly and ridiculous Mexican family spoils the whole movie with their foolish behavior. It is annoying to hear and see them, and it seems to be a critic to the behavior of Mexican families in particular, and Latin families in general, in a prejudicial view of the author. The humor does not work and it is unfunny actually. And based on the cliffhanger in the credits, it seems that the productors intend to make a sequel. My vote is four.

Destinos à Deriva (2023) – Claustrofóbico, Angustiante e Tenso

Em um futuro próximo, a Espanha tem escassez de suprimentos e o governo autoritário decide matar os idosos, as crianças e mulheres grávidas para controlar os recursos.

O casal Nico e sua esposa grávida Mia decidem fugir para a Irlanda para pedir asilo, pois eles perderam sua filha Uma que foi assassinada pelo governo.

Eles fogem com um grupo de refugiados e o fiscal subornado os coloca dentro de um container para serem transportados para um navio porta-contentores.

Entretanto, há uma invasão dentro do container por outros fugitivos e a milícia separa os grupos e Nico é enviado para outro container.

No posto de controle militar, a milícia mata os fugitivos, mas Mia se esconde no alto de uma pilha de caixas e é a única sobrevivente.

Os containers são carregados no navio, mas logo uma tempestade joga diversos containers no mar. Trancada dentro, Mia tem sua filha Noa, enquanto o nível de água do mar não para de subir.

Ela usa os poucos recursos disponíveis no container para sobreviver, enquanto o container está afundando. O que Mia irá fazer?

“Destinos à Deriva (2023)” é um filme espanhol claustrofóbico, angustiante e tenso, que é uma ótima diversão mas não pode ser tomado seriamente.

A temperatura do Oceano Atlântico teria matado Mia em um curto espaço de tempo. Mais ainda, o mar está calmo o tempo todo, sem ondas, e parece uma piscina.

Em complementação, um governo nunca mataria crianças, a menos que queira terminar com seu povo. Os mais idosos seriam prioritários às crianças.

Mas o drama de Mia e o modo como ela resolve cada situação prende a atenção do espectador. Minha nota é sete.

Nowhere (2023)

Claustrophobic, Anguishing and Tense

In a near future, Spain has shortage of supplies and the authoritarian government has decided to kill the elderly, the children and pregnant women to control the resources. The couple Nico (Tamar Novas) and his pregnant wife Mia (Anna Castillo) decide to flee to Ireland to request asylum, since they lost their daughter Uma that was killed by the government. They escape with a group of refugees and the bribed fiscal put them inside a container to be transported in a container ship. However, there is an invasion of the container by other escapees and the militia separate the groups and Nico is sent to another container. At a military checkpoint, the militia kills the fugitives but Mia hides on the top of a stack of boxes and is the only survivor. The containers are loaded onto the vessel, but soon a storm drops several containers into the sea. Locked inside, Mia delivers her baby daughter Noa while the level of sea water inside the container rises. She uses the available few resources to survive while the container is sinking. What will Mia do?

“Nowhere (2023)” is a claustrophobic, anguishing and tense Spanish movie that is a good entertainment but cannot be taken seriously. The temperature of the Atlantic Ocean would have killed Mia in a short period. Further, the sea has very few high waves and then looks like a swimming pool. In addition, a government would never kill the children, unless his decision is to end his people. The elderly it could be. But Mia’s drama and the way she resolves each situation holds the attention of the viewer. My vote is seven.

Resistência (“The Creator”- 2023)- Uma História de Ficção Científica Bastante Original

Em 2055, há uma explosão nuclear em Los Angeles e os humanos acusam a inteligência artificial (IA) pela explosão.

Como resultado, a maioria das nações ocidentais declaram guerra contra as IAs para salvar a raça humana. Entretanto, as pessoas da Nova Ásia continuam a viver com a IA.

Quinze anos depois, o militar americano sargento Joshua Taylor é enviado disfarçado para a Nova Asia para encontrar onde o criador da IA chamado Nirmata está escondido.

Ele se apaixona pela nova asiática Maya e se casam. Maya se torna sua esposa e está grávida, quando um grupo de soldados americanos lançam uma ataque onde Joshua está, expondo sua identidade.

Maya foge com sua família de IA em barcos, mas o NOMAD explode as embarcações.

Cinco anos depois, Joshua é chamado pelo general Andrews e pela coronel Howell para retornar à Nova Ásia para destruir uma nova arma chamada Alpha O, desenvolvida por Nirmata e que pode ser capaz de destruir o NOMAD, mas Joshua não mostra nenhum interesse.

Eles mostram um vídeo de Maya viva para convencer Joshua para se juntar ao time que será deslocado para destruir a arma.

Ao invés de entregá-la a Howell, ele foge com Alphie para se encontrar com seu amigo e ex-comandante Drew para descobrir o que é Alphie e aonde está Maya. Mas ele é caçado pela polícia e por Howell.

“Resistência” é o filme de ficção-científica mais original lançado recentemente pela indústria do cinema.

A trama apresenta uma visão de inteligência artificial diferente da habitual, mostrando-as como máquinas pacíficas que querem apenas coexistir com os humanos; por outro lado, o governo americano como diabólico e manipulativo.

Ao contrário da franquia do “O Exterminador do Futuro” que dá uma aviso contra a inteligência artificial.

Até mesmo a destruição de Los Angeles, conforme explicado por Harun, desempenhado por Ken Watanabe, foi causado por erro de codificação humana que o governo americano atribuiu à IA.

Os efeitos especiais, cinematografia e direção são magníficos e mereciam um roteiro melhor.

O começo é muito abrupto e somente explicado em flashbacks, e o espectador começa a assistir ao filme sem entender a situação de Joshua e Maya.

The Creator (2023)

An Original Sci-Fi Story

In 2055, a nuclear warhead is blown-up in Los Angeles and humans blame an AI for the explosion. As the result, most of the nations declare war on AI to save the human race. However, people from the New Asia continue to live with AI. Fifteen years later, the US military has developed the ultimate weapon called NOMAD to destroy the AI in New Asia that resist. Sergeant Joshua Taylor (John David Washington) is sent undercover to New Asia to find where the creator of the AI named Nirmata is hidden and he falls in love with the New Asian Maya (Gemma Chan) and they get married. Maya becomes his wife and is pregnant, when the US military team launches and attack where Josha is, exposing his cover. Maya flees with her AI family in boats, but the NOMAD explodes the ships. Five years later, Joshua is summoned by General Andrews (Ralph Ineson) and Colonel Howell (Allison Janney) to return to New Asia to destroy a new weapon called Alpha O and developed by Nirmata that may be capable to destroy NOMAD, but Joshua shows no interest. They show a video of Maya alive to convince Joshua to join the team that will be moved to destroy the weapon. He succeeds enter in the hidden compound and find a simulant that has the appearance of a girl and gives the name Alphie (Madeleine Yuna Voyles). Instead of delivering to Howell, he flees with Alphie to meet his friend and former commander Drew (Sturgill Simpson) to find what Alphie is and the whereabouts of Maya. But he is hunted down by the police and by Colonel Howell.

“The Creator” is the most original Sci-Fi recently released by the industry. The plot has a different view of the artificial intelligence (AI), showing them as pacific machines that would like to coexist with humans; on the other hand, American government is evil and manipulative. The opposite of Terminator franchise that give a warn against the AI. Even the destruction of Los Angeles, as explained by Harun, performed by Ken Watanabe, was caused by a human coding error that the U.S. government blamed on AI. The special effects, cinematography and direction is top-notch, and deserved a better screenplay. The beginning is too abrupt and only explained in flashbacks, and the viewer begins to watch the movie without understanding the situation of Joshua and Maya. My vote is seven.

O Assassino (2023) – Cinismo e Falta de Empatia

Em Paris, um assassino profissional em um apartamento vazio está esperando o seu alvo chegar em um hotel . Quando o homem chega, ele erra seu tiro e atinge uma prostituta que estava no quarto.

Ele foge para sua casa em São Domingos, na República Dominicana, e descobre que dois assassinos invadiram sua casa e bateram e torturaram sua namorada Magdala.

Ele a visita no hospital, onde ela está muito machucada, e ela conta para ele que os criminosos chegaram de táxi.

O Assassino procura pelo motorista Leo, e ele diz que o homem tinha uma perna machucada e a mulher tinha uma cabelo que parecia um cotonete. Ele mata Leo e deixa seu corpo no táxi.

Ele viaja para Nova Orleans, onde ele se encontra com o advogado Hodges, que o contratou para o assassinato.

Hodges se recusa a revelar quem o contratou e morre, mas sua secretária Dolores aceita dar os nomes dos assassinos e do cliente.

Ela pede apenas ter uma morte que não levante suspeita para ela deixar seu seguro de vida para os filhos.

Agora O Assassino viaja para a Flórida e Nova Iorque para matar os assassinos que torturaram sua namorada e se encontrar com o cliente insatisfeito em Chicago.

“O Assassino” (2023) é um filme com uma storyline simples, mas ótimas direção, roteiro, atuações e produção.

Os pensamentos do Assassino dá um retrato da mente de um psicopata, com cinismo e falta de empatia.

David Fincher é um dos melhores diretores contemporâneos e o elenco tem nomes tais como Michael Fassbender, Sophie Charlotte, Tilda Swinton e Charles Parnell.

As locações na França, República Dominicana, Nova Orleans, Flórida, Nova Iorque e Chicago são outras atrações neste ótimo filme. Minha nota é sete.

The Killer (2023)

Cynicism and Lack of Empathy

In Paris, a professional assassin (Michael Fassbender) is waiting for his target in a hotel from an empty apartment. When the man arrives, he misses his shot and hits a prostitute that is in his room instead. He flees home in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, and finds that two killers have break into his house and beaten and tortured his girlfriend Magdala (Sophie Charlotte). He visits her in the hospital where she is severely wounded and she tells him that they arrived in a taxi. The Killer looks for the driver Leo (Gabriel Polanco) and he says that the man had a wounded leg and the woman had a hair that resembled a Q-Tip. Then he kills Leo and leaves his body in the taxi. He travels to New Orleans, where he meets the lawyer Hodges (Charles Parnell), who hired him for the hit. Hodges refuses to disclose who hired him and dies, but his secretary Dolores (Kerry O’Malley) accepts to give the names of the assassins and the client. She requests only to have a non-suspicious death to leave her life insurance to her children. Now The Killer will travel to Florida and New York to kill the assassins that tortured his girlfriend and to meet his unsatisfied client in Chicago.

“The Killer” (2023) is a film with a simple storyline, but great direction, screenplay, performances and production. The thoughts of the psychopath The Killer give a portrait of the mind of a psychopath, with cynicism and lack of empathy. David Fincher is one of the best contemporary directors and the cast has names such as Michael Fassbender, Sophie Charlotte, Tilda Swinton and Charles Parnell. The locations in France, Dominican Republic, New Orleans, Florida, New York and Chicago are another plus in this great movie. My vote is seven.

A Freira 2 (2023) – Os Olhos de Santa Lúcia

Em 1956, em Tarascon, França, o padre Noiret é imolado em sua igreja por Valak.

O Vaticano envia um emissário ao convento na Itália onde a irmã Irene está servido para chamá-la para viajar para a França para combater Valak. 

Ele mostra evidências de muitos ataques do demônio na Europa. A irmã Irene viaja para a Itália seguida por sua amiga Debra que se junta a ela.

Neste meio tempo, Maurice está trabalhando em um colégio interno em Tarascon e se tornou amigo próximo da aluna Sophie e de sua mãe, a professora Kate.

Irene é assombrada por Valak na Itália, e recebe o rosário de Noiret de Debra. Elas viajam para a França para se encontrar com um bibliotecário de que é amigo de Irene.

Ele examina as evidências e o rosário e sugere que Valak, que foi um anjo rejeitado por Deus, está matando descendentes de Santa Lúcia para obter seus olhos que foram removidos por um pagão mas recuperados pela família.

A última informação conhecida é que estes olhos estão escondidos em um monatério que se tornou vinícola e agora é um colégio interno em Tarascon. Agora, Irene e Debra viajam para Tarascon. 

“A Freira 2” é um bom filme e terror e sequência de “A Freira”, mas que merecia um roteiro melhor. A trama é confusa e somente fica mais clara quando a irmã Irene se encontra com o bibliotecário na França.

As sub-tramas aparentemente são desconectadas e somente após este momento, que a história faz sentido.

A conclusão abre a possibilidade de nova sequência, com o olhar de Irene para Maurice. A atmosfera é ótima e algumas cenas assustam o espectador. Minha nota é seis.

The Nun II (2023)

The Eyes of St. Lucy

In 1956, in Tarascon, France, Father Noiret (Pascal Aubert) is immolated in his church by Valak. The Vatican sends an emissary to the convent in Italy where Sister Irene (Taissa Farmiga) is serving to summon her to travel to France to fight Valak.  He shows evidence of many attacks of the demon in Europe. Sister Irene travels to Italy followed by her friend Debra (Storm Reid) that joins her. Meanwhile, Maurice (Jonas Bloquet) is working in a boarding school in Tarascon and has become a close friend of the student Sophie (Katelyn Rose Downey) and her mother, the teacher Kate (Anna Popplewell). Irene is haunted by Valak in Italy, and receives Noiret’s rosary from Debra. They travel to France to meet a librarian that is friend of her. He examines the evidence and the rosary and suggests that Valak, who was an angel rejected by God, is killing St. Lucy’s descendants to obtain her eyes that have been removed by a pagan but recovered by her family. The last known information is that these eyes are hidden in a monastery that turned a winery, and now is a boarding school in Tarascon. Now Irene and Debra travel to Tarascon. 

“The Nun II” is a good horror movie and sequel of “The Nun” that deserved a better screenplay. The plot is confused and only becomes clear when Sister Irene meets the librarian in France. The sub-plots apparently are disconnected and only after this moment, the story makes sense. The conclusion opens a possibility of another sequel, with the look of Irene to Maurice. The atmosphere is great and some scenes startle the viewers. My vote is six.

O Protetor: Capítulo Final – O Capítulo Final da Trilogia

Na Sicília, o justiceiro Robert McCall persegue o criminoso Lorenzo Vitale e seus homens em sua vinícola para recuperar US$ 366.400 roubados em um assalto cibernético.

Quando ele está deixando o local, o neto de Lorenzo atira em suas costas. Ele dirige sua SVU pela estrada, e para no acostamento após perder muito sangue.

O policial Gio Bonucci resgata ele e o leva para o Dr. Enzo Arisio em Altamonte. Enzo trata Robert e o hospeda em casa. A população local trata Robert de braços abertos enquanto ele está se curando.

Robert faz uma chamada anônima para a agente da CIA Emma Collins e dá a dica para ela sobre a conexão da vinícola com o tráfico internacional de drogas.

Quando os mafiosos locais liderados pelos irmãos Vincent e Marco Quaranta extorquem e incendeiam a loja de peixe de seu novo amigo Angelo e Gio é atacado em casa, pois está investigando o incêndio, Robert resolve trazer justiça à pacífica cidade e seus amigos.

“O Protetor: Capítulo Final” (2023) é o capítulo final da trilogia do Protetor. Agora para fazer uma praquela, Denzel Washington está com muita idade.

A fórmula do justiceiro trazendo justiça para pessoas não é nova, mas a filmagem no Sul da Itália é magnífica.

A trama é boa, mostrando uma população receptiva que dá boas-vindas para Robert McCall e fazem-no se sentir bem.

A trama do tráfico internacional de drogas dá a chance de ver Dakota Fanning, agora uma jovem mulher, no papel de uma agente da CIA a qual Robert dá dicas e que usa seus conselhos.

A trama com a Máfia (Camorra) é muito bem resolvida por Robert McCall no final. Ótimo ver Vincent tendo uma overdose com suas drogas. Este deveria ser o destino de traficantes em todos os países civilizados. Minha nota é sete.

The Equalizer 3 (2023)

The Final Chapter of the Trilogy

In Sicily, the vigilante Robert McCall (Denzel Washington) hunts down the criminal Lorenzo Vitale (Bruno Bilotta) and his men in his winery to retrieve US$ 366.400 stolen in a cyber-heist. When he is leaving the place, Lorenzo’s grandson shots him in his back. He drives on the road and stops on the shoulder severely wounded. Police officer Gio Bonucci (Eugenio Mastrandrea) rescues him and takes to Dr. Enzo Arisio (Remo Girone) in Altamonte. Enzo treats Robert and hosts him in his home. The local population welcome Robert while he is healing. He makes an anonymous call to CIA agent   Emma Collins (Dakota Fanning) and tips her off about the connection of the winery with the traffic of drugs. When the local mobsters led by the brothers Vincent Quaranta (Andrea Scarduzio) and Marco Quaranta (Andrea Dodero) extort and arson the fish store of his new friend Angelo (Daniele Perrone) and Gio is attacked and hit at home since he is investigating the fire, Robert decides to bring justice to the peaceful place and his friends.

“The Equalizer 3” (2023) is the final chapter of the Equalizer Trilogy. For a prequel, Denzel Washington is too old. The formula of a vigilante bringing justice to people is not new, but the shooting in Southern Italy is magnificent. The plot is nice, showing a receptive population that welcome Robert McCall and makes him feel good. The plot of the international drug traffic gives the chance to see Dakota Fanning, now a young woman, in the role of a CIA agent that Robert tips off and uses his advices. The plot with the Mafia (Camorra) is very well resolved by Robert McCall in the end. Great to see Vincent having an OD with his drugs. That should be the fate of drug dealers in every civilized country. My vote is seven.

Aqueles Que me Desejam a Morte (2021) – Sobrevivência e Redenção

Na Flórida, quando um promotor e sua família morrem em uma explosão de gás em casa, o contador forense Owen Casserly acredita que a explosão foi causada por assassinos profissionais.

Ele foge com seu filho Connor para Montana, onde seu cunhado, o assistente do xerife Ethan Sawyer, vive com sua esposa grávida Allison em uma escola de sobrevivência que eles possuem.

Em Montana, a bombeiro paraquedista Hannah Faber é uma bombeiro traumatizada que errou em um combate a incêndio na floresta, onde três garotos morreram.

Agora ela está baseada em uma torre de observação com punição por sua falha.

Enquanto está dirigindo na estrada, Owen é emboscado pelos pistoleiros Jack e Patrick que anteriormente mataram o procurador, e seu carro sai da estrada e cai em um penhasco.

Owen dá para seu filho evidências contra o chefe dos assassinos de aluguel e pede a ele para fugir e encontrar alguém de confiança para informar à imprensa.

Logo após, os pistoleiros matam Owen, que está preso em seu carro. Agora os pistoleiros estão atrás de Connor na casa de Alisson fingindo se agentes do FBI, mas ela desconfia dos camaradas.

Alisson consegue fugir, e Jack incendeia a floresta para desviar a atenção enquanto procuram o menino para matá-lo.

“Aqueles Que me Desejam a Morte” (2021) é um ótimo filme, com uma história de sobrevivência e redenção.

Hannah Faber é um personagem complexo, que falhou no salvamento de três garotos em uma incêndio na floresta, mas que encontra redenção ajudando Connor.

Alisson usa seu conhecimento de sobrevivência na floresta para fugir dos assassinos e lutar com eles.

Embora a história se passe em Montana, a filmagem foi no Novo México.

A produção é impressionante, construindo uma floresta de 300 hectares no deserto do Novo México para incendiá-la e filmar cenas de tirar o fôlego com o mínimo de CGI. 

Detalhe: foram usadas árvores doentes para construir a floresta. Também foi usado um rancho no Novo México com uma floresta queimada para a filmagem das últimas cenas.

O elenco tem ótima atuação e a atriz principal Angeline Jolie é, adicionalmente, muito bonita. No final, “Aqueles Que me Desejam a Morte” é um filme de ação com ótimo desenvolvimento dos personagens.

Assisti a este filme em um Blu-Ray da Warner, e meu voto é sete.

Those Who Wish Me Dead (2021)

Survival and Redemption

In Florida, when a District Attorney and his family die in a gas explosion, the forensic accountant Owen Casserly (Jake Weber) believes the explosion was an assassination by killers. He flees with his son Connor (Finn Little) to Montana, where his brother-in-law, Deputy Ethan Sawyer (Jon Bernthal), lives with his pregnant wife Allison (Medina Senghore) in a survival school of their own. In Montana, the smokejumper Hannah Faber (Angelina Jolie) is a traumatized firefighter that failed in a firefighting in the woods, where three kids died. Now she is based in a lookout tower as a punishment for her failure. While driving on the road, Owen is ambushed by the hitmen Jack (Aidan Gillen) and Patrick (Nicholas Hoult) that have previously killed the District Attorney and his car falls in a cliff off road. Owen gives to his son evidence against the assassin’s boss and asks him to flee and found someone he trusts to warn the press. Then the hitmen kill Owen, who is trapped in his car. Now the killers are looking for Connor at Alisson’s house posing as FBI agents, but she does not buy their disguise. Alisson succeeds to escape, and Jack arsons the forest to create a diversion while they hunt down the boy.

“Those Who Wish Me Dead” (2021) is a great film with a story of survival and redemption. Hannah Faber is a complex character, who failed to save three boys in a fire in the woods but find redemption helping Connor. Allisson uses her survival knowledge to escape from the killer and fight them. Although the story is in Montana, the shooting was in New Mexico. The production is impressive, constructing a 300-hectare forest in the New Mexico desert to arson and film the breathtaking scenes with fewer CGI.  Detail: they have used sick trees to build the forest. They also used a ranch in New Mexico with a burnt forest to shoot the last scenes. The cast has excellent performance and the lead actress Angeline Jolie is, in addition, very beautiful. In the end, “Those Who Wish Me Dead” is an action film with excellent development of characters. My vote is seven.

Title (Brazil): “Aqueles Que me Desejam a Morte” (“Those Who Wish Me the Death”)

A Última Linha de Defesa (2020) – A Última Linha de Defesa de Moscou

Em outubro de 1941, as tropas alemãs estão se direcionando para Moscou e pois os soviéticos não tem nenhuma tropa para defender a capital.

O Coronel Strelbitsky, que é o chefe da Escola de Artilharia Podolsk, é ordenado para usar seus 3.500 cadetes para defender a última linha de defesa de Moscou até o último homem, até que as tropas russas retornem para assumir a proteção.

Os cadetes tem poucos suprimentos, munição e armas, mas eles bravamente dependem sua pátria.

“A Última Linha de Defesa” (2020) é um filme de guerra russo baseado em eventos reais.

A história é apresentada com romance e dramatização, mas é triste ver os efeitos da guerra em jovens gerações que deveriam estar estudando e namorando, mas são enviados para a morte.

É bonito ver o patriotismo dos jovens e a beleza das atrizes. Os jovens atores russos também são homens bonitos e o número de figurantes é impressionante. Minha nota é sete.

Podolskiye kursanty (2020) / The Last Frontier

The Last Defense Line to Moscow

In October, 1941, the German troops are heading to Moscow and the soviets do not have any troop nearby to protect their capital. Colonel Strelbitsky (Evgeniy Dyatlov), who is the head of the Podolsk Artillery School, is ordered to use his 3,500 cadets to defend the last stand to Moscow until the last man while the Russian troops return to assume the protection. The cadets have few provisions, ammunition and weapons, but they bravely defend their motherland.

“Podolskiye kursanty” (2020), a.k.a. “The Last Frontier”, is a great Russian war movie based on true events. The story is presented with romance and dramatization, but it is sad to see the effects of war in a young generation that should be studying and dating, but are sent to death instead. It is beautiful to see the patriotism of the youths, and the beauty of the actresses. The Russian actors are also handsome men, and the number of extras is also impressive. My vote is seven.

Som da Liberdade (2023)- Excelente Suspense Baseado em Uma História Real

Em Honduras, Roberto é convidado por uma mulher chamada Giselle para levar seus filhos Rocio e Miguel para uma sessão de fotos de uma agência de modelos.

Entretanto, ele é enganado pois Giselle é uma traficante de escravas brancas, que rapta as duas crianças para serem usadas como escravos sexuais.

Na California, o agente do HSI Tim Ballard é um pai de família que caça pedófilos, mas se sente frustrados pois ele nunca recuperou uma criança.

Quando ele prende o predador sexual Oshinsky, ele engana o homem e recupera Miguel.

Sua investigação posterior mostra que Rocio pode estar em e Cartagena e Tim convence seu chefe para viajar disfarçado para Cartagena para resgatar a menina.

Ele se junta ao antigo contador do cartel Vampiro, que agora dedica sua vida para resgatar crianças dos traficantes, e com o policial colombiano Jorge, para montar uma grande operação para resgatar Rocio e outras crianças.

“Som da Liberdade” (2023) é um excelente suspense baseado em uma história real. A trama não é totalmente precisa com a realidade, mas é realmente atrativo para espectadores como eu e você.

Os fictícios Rocio e Miguel representam os milhares (ou milhões) de crianças sequestradas, principalmente em países do Terceiro Mundo, para servirem de escravos sexuais para estes desprezíveis traficantes.

Trata-se de um dramático filme de ação, e não um documentário; portanto, as liberdades no roteiro são totalmente válidas para conscientizar pessoas deste sério perigo. Minha nota é oito.

Sound of Freedom (2023)

Amazing Thriller Based on a True Story

In Honduras, Roberto (Jose Zuñiga) is invited by a woman named Giselle (Yessica Borroto) to take his children Rocio and Miguel to a session of photos for a modelling agency. However, he is lured since Giselle is a human trafficker that kidnaps his children to be used as sex slaves.

In California, HSI agent Tim Ballard (Jim Caviezel) is a family man that hunts pedophiles down, but he is frustrated since he has never recovered a child. When he arrests the sexual predator Oshinsky (Kris Avedisian), he lures the man and successfully retrieves Miguel. His further investigation shows that Rocio may be in Cartagena and Tim convinces his chief to travel undercover to Cartagena to rescue Rocio. He teams up with the former cartel accountant Vampiro (Bill Camp), who now dedicates his life to rescue children from traffickers, and to the Colombian police officer Jorge (Javier Godino) to build a huge operation to rescue Rocio and other slave children.

“Sound of Freedom” (2023) is an amazing thriller based on a true story. The plot is not accurate with the reality, but really engaging for viewers like me and you. Rocio and Miguel represent thousands (or millions) of children kidnapped mostly in Third World countries to serve as sex slaves for these despicable human traffickers. The film is a dramatic action film and not a documentary; therefore, the screenplay is totally valid to make people aware of this serious danger. My vote is eight.

Drácula: A Última Viagem do Deméter (2023) – A Longa Viagem da Bulgária para Londres

 

Em 1897, em um porto na Bulgária, o navio Deméter recebe caixas com terra para transportar para Londres com a promessa de um bônus para cada tripulante se a entrega for no prazo.

O Cap. Eliot espera se aposentar após a viagem e recomenda seu imediato Wojchek para sua posição para morar com e criar seu neto Toby.

A tripulação é composta pelo cozinheiro Joseph; o médico negro Clemens; e os marinheiros Olgaren; Abrams; Larsen; e Petrofsky planejam o que eles vão fazer com seus bônus.

Inesperadamente, o cão e o gado são encontrados mortos e a tripulação investiga o porão de carga. Eles encontram uma jovem mulher, Anna, quase morta e Clemens salva sua vida com sucessiva transfusões de sangue.

Logo eles descobrem que algo do mal está à bordo.

“Drácula, A Última Viagem do Deméter” é um ótimo filme de terror baseado nos registros do Cap. Eliot sobre o que aconteceu em seu navio “Demeter” em sua última viagem.

A trama é tensa e muito bem escrita, e desenvolvida em um ritmo adequado. in sua última viagem. Talvez seja a única parte do romance de Bram Stocker que o cinema ainda não tinha mostrado.

A imagem de Drácula lembra “Nosferatu” (1922) de F. W. Murnau, com excelente maquiagem e efeitos especiais. Minha nota é sete.

The Last Voyage of the Demeter (2023)

 The Long Voyage from Bulgaria to London

In 1897, in a harbor in Bulgaria, the ship Demeter receives boxes of soil to transport to London with a promise of a bonus for each crewmember if they deliver on time. Captain Eliot (Liam Cunningham) expects to retire after their journey and recommend his first mate Wojchek (David Dastmalchian) to his position to live with and raise his grandson Toby (Woody Norman). The crew composed by the cook Joseph (Jon Jon Briones); the black doctor Clemens (Corey Hawkins); and the sailors Olgaren (Stefan Kapicic); Abrams (Chris Walley); Larsen (Martin Furulund); and Petrofsky (Nikolai Nikolaeff) plan what they will do with their bonus. Out of the blue, the dog and the livestock are found dead and the crew investigate the cargo hold. They find a young woman, Anna (Aisling Franciosi), almost dead and Clemens saves her life with successive blood transfusion. Soon they learn that there is something evil on board.

“The Last Voyage of the Demeter” is a great horror movie based on Captain Eliot´s log about what happened with her ship “Demeter” in her last voyage. The plot is tense and very well written, developed in an adequate pace. Maybe this is the only part of Bram Stocker’s novel that the cinema had not shown yet. Dracula’s image recalls F. W. Murnau´s “Nosferatu” (1922), with excellent make-up and special effects. My vote is seven.

Fale Comigo (2022) – Um Filme de Terror de Baixo Orçamento Efetivo

A adolescente Mia sente falta de sua mãe Rhea, que morreu de overdose de pílulas de dormir há alguns anos atrás.

Agora, ela está afastada de se pai Max, e vivendo com uma família composta por sua colega de escola e melhor amiga Jade; o irmão dela de quinze anos Riley; e a mãe deles Sue.

Uma noite, Mia, Jade e Riley vão à uma festa de seus amigos Hayley e Joss para se encontrarem com o namorado de Jade e antiga paixão de Mia, Daniel.

Logo eles descobrem que a atração é uma mão cortada e embalsamada de um vidente que é capaz de se comunicar com os espíritos.

Há uma vela acesa para guiar o espírito, a pessoa é amarrada à uma cadeira, devendo segurar a mão, e dizer “fale comigo” e depois “eu te deixo entrar” para permitir que o espírito possua seu corpo.

O mais importante é que a conexão deve ser interrompida antes de noventa segundos. Mia se oferece como voluntária para a experiência e fica excitada com o experimento, e resolve repeti-la na casa de Sue.

Contudo, o período de noventa segundos é excedido, com trágicas consequências para Riley, e Mia é assombrada pelo espírito de sua mãe que passa a guiá-la.

Ou estará ela sendo enganada por um espírito do mal?

“Fale Comigo” (2022) é um filme de terror australiano-britânico de baixo orçamento bastante efetivo, com uma história simples, mas ótima.

O roteiro é bem escrito e prende a atenção do espectador até a última cena. Há poucos efeitos especiais, somente quando necessário; portanto, o elenco desconhecido faz um bom trabalho e o filme funciona.

Miranda Ottis atua em uma papel secundário e talvez seja o nome mais conhecido do elenco. A conclusão é excelente e provavelmente uma sequência ou início da trama serão feitas futuramente;

Talk to Me (2022)

Effective Horror Low-Budget Movie

The teenager Mia (Sophie Wilde) misses her mother Rhea (Alexandria Steffensen), who died of pill overdose a couple of years ago. Now she is estranged of her father Max (Marcus Johnson), and lives with a family composed by her school mate and best friend Jade (Alexandra Jensen); her fifteen-year-old brother Riley (Joe Bird); and their mother Sue (Miranda Otto). One night, Mia, Jade and Riley go to a party hosted by their friends Hayley (Zoe Terakes) and Joss (Chris Alosio) to meet Jade’s boyfriend and former Mia’s crush Daniel (Otis Dhanji). Soon they learn that the attraction is a severed and embalmed hand of a clairvoyant that is capable to communicate with the spirits. There is a lit candle to guide the spirit, the person is tied to the chair and shall hold the hand, say “talk to me” and then “I let you in” to enable the spirit to possess his or her body. The most important is that the connection shall be interrupted before ninety seconds. Mia volunteers to the experiment and is excited with the experience and decides to repeat at Sue’s home. However, this time the period of ninety seconds is exceeded, with tragic consequences to Riley, and Mia is haunted by the spirit of her mother that guides her. Or is she lured by an evil spirit?

“Talk to Me” (2022) is an effective Australian-British horror low-budget movie, with a simple but great story. The screenplay is well-written and holds the attention of the viewer to the very last scene. There are only a few special effects, only when necessary; therefore, the unknown cast succeeds to make the film work. Miranda Ottis performs only a supporting role and maybe is the most famous name in the cast. The conclusion is excellent and probably a sequel or a prequel or both will be made on the future. My vote is seven.

Hypnotic: Ameaça Invisível (2023) – Infelizmente, Exige QI do Espectador para Entender a História

Em Austin, o Det. Danny Rourke está fazendo terapia desde quando sua filha Minnie foi sequestrada.

A terapeuta o libera para trabalhar com seu parceiro Randy Nicks, que acabou de receber uma pista de um assalto à um banco.

Eles vão para o banco para ficar de tocaia e Rourke suspeita de um homem, Lev Dellrayne. O homem faz o roubo, mas Rourke consegue a informação do cofre primeiramente que tem uma foto de sua filha.

Rourke prossegue sua investigação e se depara com a vidente Diana Cruz, que se alia à ele para conseguir proteção contra Lev Dellrayne.

Ela explica que há uma divisão governamental secreta que selecionou pessoas “hypnotic”, que tem o poder de usar suas mentes para manipular a realidade.

Logo Rourke descobre que ele também é um “hypnotic”, e que sua filha é muito poderosa.

“Hypnotic: Ameaça Invisível” (2023) é um ótimo suspense que infelizmente demanda QI do espectador para entender a história.

A trama é intrigante, com muitos twists, e uma conclusão satisfatória. Eu só lamento o gancho criado nos créditos para uma possível sequência. Mas a trama em geral é ótima e minha nota é sete.

Hypnotic (2023)

Unfortunately, Demands IQ from the Viewer to Understand the Story

In Austin, Detective Danny Rourke (Ben Affleck) is under therapy since his daughter Minnie was abducted. The therapist releases him to work with his partner Randy Nicks (JD Pardo), who has a tip of a bank heist. They head to the bank to stay at stake, and when Rourke suspects of a stranger, Lev Dellrayne  (William Fichtner). The man commits the robber but Rourke gets the information of the box first that is a picture of his daughter. Rourke proceeds his investigation and stumbles upon the clairvoyant Diana Cruz (Alice Braga) that teams up with Rourke to seek protection against Lev Dellrayne. She explains that there is a secret government division that has selected hypnotic people, who have the ability to use his mind to manipulate reality. Soon Rourke finds that he is also a hypnotic, and his daughter is very powerful.

“Hypnotic” (2023) is a great thriller that unfortunately, demands IQ from the viewer to understand the story. The plot is intriguing, with many twists, and a satisfactory conclusion. I only regret the cliffhanger created in the credits to a possible sequel. But the plot in general is good. My vote is seven.

Ninguém Vai Te Salvar (2023) – Uma História Original de Invasão Alienígena

Brynn é uma jovem mulher que vive sozinha em uma casa na floresta. Ela sente saudades de sua mãe, que morreu recentemente, e de sua melhor amiga Maude.

Ela passa seus dias escrevendo uma carta para Maude, construindo uma cidade em miniatura em uma mesa em sua sala da estar, ouvindo música de dançando.

Ela é segregada de sua comunidade, que a ignoram e a razão não é clara.

Uma noite, enquanto está dormindo, Brynn é acordada pelo barulho de um alienígena em sua casa. O alienígena tenta dominá-la, mas ela enterra um objeto em sua cabeça e mata a criatura.

Ela descobre que seu carro, telefone e qualquer dispositivo energizado não estão funcionando, mas ela vai para a cidade de bicicleta para reportar o ocorrido.

Entretanto, ela se depara com os pais de Maude no distrito policial e a mãe dela, Sra. Collins, cospe em seu rosto.

O pai dela, Chefe de Polícia Collins, não toma nenhuma atitude e Brynn decide voltar para casa. O que está acontecendo com Brynn e com os moradores da cidade?

“Ninguém Vai Te Salvar” é um filme com uma história original de invasão alienígena, com um roteiro diferente.

A trama levemente recorda “Vampiro das Almas”, como se uma pessoa descobrisse que os alienígenas estão invadindo e possuindo os corpos dos terrestres.

Este é o primeiro trabalho que eu vejo de Kaitlyn Dever, e é espantosa a atuação desta atriz, em um filme praticamente mudo, onde ela só pode utilizar expressões faciais e corporais.

A trama é tensa e o espectador permanece com um ponto de interrogação em sua cabeça até a conclusão.

Parece que os alienígenas conseguiram e Brynn está feliz agora sem qualquer parasita, mas aceita por sua comunidade. Pelo menos, foi o que eu entendi com o final. Minha nota é sete.

No One Will Save You (2023)

Original Alien Invasion Story

Brynn (Kaitlyn Dever) is a young woman who lives alone in a house in the woods. She misses her mother, who recently died, and her best friend Maude. She spends her days writing a letter to Maude, building a miniature town on a table in the living room, listening to music and dancing. She is outcast by her community that ignores her and the reason is not clear. One night, while sleeping, Brynn is awakened by the noise of an alien creature in her house. The alien tries to subdue her but she stabs it in the head and kills the creature. She finds that her car, her telephone and any powered device are not working but she heads to the town by bicycle to report the incident. However, she faces Maude’s parents in the police station and her mother Mrs. Collins (Geraldine Singer) spits in her face. Her father, the Police Chief Collins (Dane Rhodes), does not take any attitude and Brynn decides to return home. What is happening to Brynn and the towners?

“No One Will Save You” is an original alien invasion story with a different screenplay. The plot remembers “Invasion of the Body Snatchers”, as if a person has found that aliens are invading and possessing the bodies of Earthlings. This is the first work I see of Kaitlyn Dever, and is amazing the acting of this actress in a practically silent movie, where she can use only facial and body expressions. The plot is tense and the viewer stays with an interrogation mark in his or her head until the conclusion. It seems that the aliens have succeeded and Brynn is happier now without any parasite but accepted by her community. At least that is what I have understood with the ending. My vote is seven.

Hércules no Labirinto do Minotauro (1994) – Recapitulação com Uma Pequena Aventura

Hercules está aposentado e entediado com sua vida de fazendeiro e pai de família, sentindo falta de suas aventuras. Inesperadamente, seu melhor amigo Iolaus chega e eles recordam suas aventuras.

Quando um estranho vem do lugarejo distante chamado Alturia pedindo ajuda para lutar com um monstro, Deianeira convence seu marido que ele deveria ajudar os moradores pois ele está precisando de ação em sua vida.

Hércules e Iolaus vão para Alturia e logo Hércules descobre que um minotauro está no subsolo ameaçando os moradores.

“Hércules no Labirinto do Minotauro” (1994) é um filme que poderia ser ótimo, mas não é.

A recapitulação dos outros quatro filmes é maçante e desnecessária, reduzindo a aventura de Hércules no labirinto do minotauro a uma história curta que poderia ser maior.

Este é o último filme da série de cinco e infelizmente merece a menor avaliação. Agora as aventuras de Hércules finalmente terminaram.

Eu vi este episódio em uma fita VHS da CIC-Vídeo e minha nota é seis.

Hercules in the Maze of the Minotaur (1994)

Recap with a Short Adventure

Hercules (Kevin Sorbo) is retired and bored with his life of farmer and family man, missing the action of his adventures. Out of the blue, his best friend Iolaus (Michael Hurst) arrives and they remember their adventures. When a stranger comes from the distant village of Alturia asking for help to fight a monster, Deianeira (Tawny Kitaen) convinces her husband that he should help the villagers since he needs action in his life. Hercules and Iolaus head to Alturia and soon Hercules learns that a Minotaur is underground threatening the villagers.

“Hercules in the Maze of the Minotaur” (1994) is a movie that could have been great, but it is not. The recap of the four others movies is boring and unnecessary, reducing the adventure of Hercules in the maze of the Minotaur to a short story that deserved more. This is the last movie of the series of five and unfortunately deserves a lower rating. Now the adventures of Hercules has finally settled down. My vote is six.

Hércules no Mundo dos Mortos (1994) – Excelente Aventura

Hércules está feliz, casado com dois filhos e um bebê com Deianeira, com o centauro Nessus trabalhando com ele em sua fazenda e ajudando seus vizinhos com seus problemas.

Inesperadamente, a bela Iole, de uma terra distante, pede por ajuda para o seu vilarejo que tem um buraco ligando ao mundo dos mortos e que está matando os moradores.

Hércules decide viajar com Iole para ajudar seu povo e Nessus, que é um adorador de Hera, envenena Deianeira com a beleza de Iole.

Quando Nessus ataca Deianeira, Hércules mata o centauro e ele banha o manto de Deianeira com seu sangue e diz para Deianeira entregar sua capa para Hércules para mantê-lo fiel à ela.

Quando Hércules veste a capa, ele fica alucinado e mergulha no buraco para o mundo dos mortos. Quando Deianeira descobre o que aconteceu com Hércules, ela pula dos rochedos e se suicida.

Agora Hércules tem que encontrar um modo de voltar dos mundos dos mortos com Deianeira para o mundo dos vivos.

“Hércules no Mundo dos Mortos” é provavelmente o melhor filme desta franquia, com uma história cheia de ação e pontos de viradas.

A química de Kevin Sorbo e Tawny Kitaen é espetacular, e a beleza de Marlee Shelton é impressionante.

A trama apresenta muitos twists e a conclusão tem um final feliz com Zeus, que está perfeito.

Eu revi este filme em uma fita da CIC Vídeo e minha nota é oito.

Hercules in the Underworld (1994)

Excellent Adventure

Hercules (Kevin Sorbo) is happily married with two children and a baby with Deianeira (Tawny Kitaen), with the centaur Nessus (Cliff Curtis) working with him in his farm, and helping his neighbors from problems. Out of the blue, the beautiful Iole (Marlee Shelton), from a distant land, asks for help for her village that has a hole to the underworld that is killing the villagers. Hercules decides to travel with Iole to help her people and Nessus, who is a follower of Hera, poisons Deianeira with the beauty of Iole. When Nessus attacks Deianeira, Hercules kills him and he baths Deianeira’s cloak with his blood and tells Deianeira to give her cloak to Hercules to keep him faithful to her. When Hercules wears her cloak, he goes haywire and dives in the hole to the underworld. When Deianeira learns what has happened to Hercules, she jumps off the cliffs and commits suicide. Now Hercules has to find a means to return with Deianeira from the world of the dead back to the world of the living.  

“Hercules in the Underworld” is probably the best movie of this franchise, with a story full of action and plot points. The chemistry of Kevin Sorbo and Tawny Kitaen is amazing, and beauty of Marlee Shelton is impressive. The plot has many twists and the conclusion with a happy ending with Zeus is perfect for the plot. My vote is eight.

Hércules e o Círculo de Fogo – O Fogo e a Cura

Durante a visita ao seu amigo imortal Cheiron, que foi acidentalmente ferido por Hércules durante uma batalha, todo o fogo do vilarejo apaga-se.

Hércules vai ao único local onde ainda há fogo, o templo de Hera, e descobre que a diabólica deusa está por trás do evento.

Ele se depara com a líder do vilarejo, Deianeira, eles vão juntos para ver o deus do fogo Prometheus e eles descobrem que ele está congelando.

Ele tomam conhecimento que Hera roubou a rocha de fogo e se ela apagar, a raça humana estará condenada a perecer.

Zeus revela para Hércules onde Hera está, mas o aconselha a não ir pois ele pode morrer. Mas Hércules prossegue sua viagem com Deianeira, e eles conhecem a garota Phaedra na floresta.

A menina dá orientações erradas para eles, atrasando Hércules de seu confronto com Hera.

“Hércules e o Círculo de Fogo” é uma outra divertida aventura de Hércules. A trama é cheia de ação, apoiada por um ótimo elenco, efeitos especiais e carismáticos personagens.

A bela Tawny Kitaen, que foi esposa de David Coverdale e recentemente no deixou, é o par romântico de Kevin Sorbo e a química deles é impressionante.

Anthony Quinn também rouba a cena, no papel do poderoso deus que teme sua diabólica esposa Hera e ama seu filho mortal.

Espero brevemente rever os demais filmes de Hércules, que não envelheceram quase trinta anos depois de seu lançamento.

Eu revi este filme em uma fita VHS da CIC Vídeos e minha nota é sete.

Hercules: The Legendary Journeys – The Circle of Fire (1994)

The Fire and the Cure

While visiting his immortal friend Cheiron (Kevin Atkinson), who was accidentally wounded by Hercules (Kevin Sorbo) during a battle, all the fire in the village goes out. Hercules goes to the only place that still have fire, Hera’s temple, and he learns that the evil goddess is behind the event. He stumbles with the village leader Deianeira (Tawny Kitaen), they head together to see the god of the fire Prometheus (Mark Ferguson) and they find him frozen. They learn that Hera has stolen his fire torch and if this fire goes out, mankind will be doomed to die. Zeus (Anthony Quinn) discloses to Hercules where Hera is, but advises him not to go since he may die. But Hercules proceeds his journey with Deianeira, and meets the girl Phaedra (Stephanie Barrett) in the woods, who gives wrong tips to them, delaying Hercules from his showdown with Hera.

“Hercules: The Legendary Journeys – The Circle of Fire” is another entertaining adventure of Hercules. The plot is full of action, supported by a great cast, special effects and charismatics characters. The gorgeous Tawny Kitaen, who recently left us, is the romantic pair of Kevin Sorbo and their chemistry is amazing. Anthony Quinn also steals the show, in the role of the most powerful god that fears his evil wife Hera and loves his mortal son. Looking forward to see the next Hercules films again that has not aged almost thirty years after its release. My vote is seven.

Hércules em Busca do Reino Perdido (1994) – À Procura de Tróia

Quando um mensageiro de Tróia se encontra com Hércules em um vilarejo, ele descobre que o homem é o último dos cem mensageiros enviados por Tróia para encontrá-lo.

Hera matou todos os outros ao longo de suas jornadas. Quando o mensageiro morre, Zeus diz para seu filho que ele precisa de uma bússola que pertence a um rei para encontrar Tróia.

Hércules vai para o seu reino e resgata pelo caminho a virgem Deianeira de um sacrifício para o deus das águas.

Ela caminha com ele e logo Hércules descobre que o rei morreu e que a Rainha Omphale agora governa o reino.

Hércules usa o mercado de escravo para chegar até a rainha e ela dá a bússola para ele após uma noite com ele. Agora eles estão possibilitados de chegar à Tróia, onde descobertas são feitas.

“Hércules em Busca do Reino Perdido” (1994) é a ótima sequência da primeira jornada de Hércules com as Amazonas.

Eu revi este ótimo filme outro dia em um fita da CIC Vídeos, que é baseado em deuses, semideuses, reis e rainhas da mitologia grega, e ele não envelheceu.

O forte Kevin Sorbo é talhado para o papel de Hércules e sua química com Renee O’Connor é fantástica. Infelizmente estes filmes do Hércules só foram lançados em fita VHS no Brasil. Minha nota é sete.

Looking for Troy

When a messenger from Troy meets Hercules (Kevin Sorbo) in a village, he learns that the man is the last of one hundred messengers sent by Troy to find Hercules. Hera has killed all the others along their journey. Then the man dies. Zeus (Anthony Quinn) tells his son that he needs a compass that belongs to a king to find Troy. Hercules heads to his kingdom and rescues the virgin Deianeira (Renee O’Connor) from a sacrifice to the god of the waters. She walks with him and soon Hercules learns that the king has died and Queen Omphale (Elizabeth Hawthorne) now rules the kingdom. Hercules uses the slave market to reach the queen and she gives the compass to him. Now they are able to reach Troy, where discoveries are made.

“Hercules: The Legendary Journeys – Hercules and the Lost Kingdom” (1994) is the great sequel of the first journey of Hercules with the Amazon Women. Yesterday I saw this entertaining film again, which is based on mythological gods, demigods, kings and queens and it has not aged. The strong Kevin Sorbo is tailored to be Hercules and his chemistry with Renee O’Connor is fantastic. Unfortunately, these Hercules’ films have been only released on VHS in Brazil. My vote is seven.

Hércules e as Amazonas (1994) – Após Quase Trinta Anos, Permanece uma Aventura Maravilhosa

Hércules volta para casa para visitar sua mãe Alcmene e para o casamento de seu melhor amigo Iolaus.

Inesperadamente, o morador Pithus chega pedindo ajuda a Hércules para derrotar monstros que estão atacando o seu distante vilarejo.

Hércules viaja com Iolaus para lutar com os monstros e logo eles descobrem que eles são na verdade amazonas controladas pela diabólica Hera.

“Hércules e as Amazonas” (1994) é ainda uma maravilhosa aventura quase trinta anos após o seu lançamento.

Outro dia eu revi este filme divertido novamente, o qual é baseado em deuses e semi-deuses mitológicos, e por incrível que pareça, não envelheceu.

Até mesmo os efeitos especiais ainda são bons para um filme de televisão. Kevin Sorbo está excelente neste papel.

Infelizmente, estes filmes do Hércules só foram lançados em fita VHS bo Brasil, pela CIC Vídeos e minha nota é sete.

Hercules and the Amazon Women (1994)

After Almost Thirty Years, Still a Delightful Adventure

Hercules (Kevin Sorbo) returns home to visit his mother Alcmene (Jennifer Ludlam) and to the wedding of his best friend Iolaus (Michael Hurst).  Out of the blue, the villager Pithus (Lloyd Scott) arrives asking for help to Hercules to defeat monsters that are attacking his distant village. Hercules travels with Iolaus to fight the monsters and soon they learn that they are indeed Amazons controlled by the evil Hera.

“Hercules and the Amazon Women” (1994) is still a delightful adventure after almost thirty years. Yesterday I saw this entertaining film again, which is based on mythological gods and demigods, and it has not aged. Even the special effects are still good for a TV movie. Kevin Sorbo is excellent in this role. Unfortunately, these Hercules’ films have been only released on VHS in Brazil. My vote is seven.

Terug naar de kust (The Dark House) (2009) -Previsível, mas o Suspense não é Ruim

A cantora de rock ‘n’ roll Maria cria seu filho e sua filha sozinha e seu namorado infiel, o guitarrista Geert, está morando com ela. Quando ela vê Geert traindo-a, ela decide terminar com ele.

Logo a seguir, ela descobre que está grávida e resolve abortar o bebê, apesar do protesto de Geert. Logo depois, Maria descobre que alguém está espreitando-a e enviando fotos do aborto para ela.

Entretanto o detetive Van Wijk não dá muita atenção para ela. Maria viaja com seus filhos para a casa de sua irmã Ans, que é psicóloga e foi deixada pelo seu namorado há alguns dias.

Maria pede para ficar com ela por alguns dias. Logo, uma sequência de coisas ruins acontece com Maria e Van Wijk acredita que ela é a responsável e que está querendo chamar a atenção.

Mas seus problemas não param de crescer.

“Terug naar de kust“, ou “The Dark House” (2009), é um suspense holandês previsível mas bastante razoável que não foi lançado no Brasil.

Eu vi este filme em um voo da KLM sem nenhuma referência e a trama não é tão ruim como indicado em muitas críticas.

A identidade de quem está perseguindo Mari é previsível e o detective Van Wijk é um personagem ridículo, mas há cenas e situações interessantes ao longo da trama.

A conclusão é bastante razoável. Minha nota para este filme é seis.

Terug naar de kust (2009)

Predictable, but Entertaining

The rock ’n’ roll singer Maria (Linda de Mol) raises her son and her daughter alone and her unfaithful boyfriend, the guitarist Geert (Daan Schuurmans), is living with her. When she sees Geert cheating on her, she decides to break with him. Immediately after, she finds that she is pregnant and decides to abort the baby against Geert’s will. Soon she finds that someone is stalking and sending photo of her abortion to her but the police detective Van Wijk (Pierre Bokma) does not give much attention to her. Maria travels with her children to the house of her sister Ans (Ariane Schluter), who is a psychologist and was dumped by her boyfriend a couple of days ago, expecting to stay with her for a short period. Soon bad things happen to Maria and Van Wijk believes she is the responsible asking for attention. But her troubles do not stop to escalate.

“Terug naar de kust”, a.k.a. “The Dark House” (2009), is a predictable but entertaining Dutch thriller not released in Brazil. I saw this film in a KLM’s flight without any previous reference and the plot is not so bad as indicated in many reviews. It is predictable who the stalker is and Detective Van Wijk is a ridiculous character, but there are interesting scenes and situations along the plot. The conclusion is also not bad. My vote is seven.

Simulant (2023) – Um Plágio e Blade Runner que Faz Pensar

Em um futuro próximo, a Corporação Nexxera fabrica humanóides com I.A. chamados Simulants para servir à raça humana e regidos por quatro princípios para mantê-los sob controle.

A AICE (Artificial Intelligence Compliance Enforcement) é a agência que mantém o sistema funcionando, caçando Simulants defeituosos.

Quando o agente Kessler, que detesta Simulants, é designado para investigar a Simulant Esme, ele descobre que um gênio chamado Desmond Casey está por trás da independência de vários Simulants.

Neste meio tempo, um homem chamado Evan está apaixonado por sua esposa Faye; inesperadamente, ele faz uma descoberta que irá afetar o relacionamento deles.

“Simulant” (2023) é um plágio de Blade Runner que faz o espectador pensar no futuro da raça humana com a inteligência artificial.

Eu vi este filme em um voo da KLM sem nenhuma referência, pois permanece inédito no Brasil, e eu concordo que o roteiro e o ritmo poderiam ser melhores, além da atmosfera ser muito fria.

Mas este filme canadense não é tão ruim como indicado em muitas resenhas.

A conclusão mostra que uma nova raça está vindo e, nos créditos, mostra que humanos e Simulants podem não ser muito diferentes, com Desmond comprando Esme em um leilão.

Por outro lado, Evan é um personagem em uma dimensão e sua única motivação é seu amor por Faye. Minha nota para este filme é seis.

Simulant (2023)

A Thoughtful Blade Runner Rip-Off

In the near future, the Nexxera Corporation manufactures A.I. humanoids called Simulants to serve mankind and ruled by four principles to keep them under control. The AICE (Artificial Intelligence Compliance Enforcement) is the agency that keeps the system working, hunting down defectives Simulants. When agent Kessler (Sam Worthington), who hates Simulants, is assigned to investigate a Simulant called Esme (Alicia Sanz), he learns that a genius called Desmond Casey (Simu Liu) is behind the independence of several Simulants. Meanwhile, a man called Evan (Robbie Amell) is in deep love with his wife Faye (Jordana Brewster); out of the blue, he makes a discovery that will affect their relationship.

“Simulant” (2023) is a thoughtful Blade Runner rip-off. I saw this film in a KLM’s flight without any reference and I agree that the screenplay and pace could have been better and the atmosphere is too cold. But this Canadian film is not so bad and indicated in many underrated reviews. The conclusion shows that a new breed is coming and, in the credits, shows that humans and Simulants may be not so different, with Desmond auctioning Esme. But Evan is one dimension and is only driven by his love for Faye. My vote is six.

A Baleia (2022) – Desagradável e Depressivo

“A Baleia” é um filme americano muito desagradável e depressivo, onde a única atração é a atuação magnífica de Brendan Fraser.

A storyline é baseada na tentativa de reconciliação do professor de inglês Charlie (Brendan Fraser) com sua filha adolescente Ellie antes de sua morte.

Charlie é morbidamente obeso e irá morrer em alguns dias, e abandonou Ellie quando ele se divorciou de sua esposa para morar com seu namorado.

Talvez se o espectador for para um hospital para passar algumas horas tenha mais diversão que assistindo a este filme superestimado.

Eu assisti a este filme em um voo da KLM e meu voto é cinco.

The Whale (2022)

Unpleasant and Depressive

“The Whale” is a very unpleasant and depressive American movie, where the only attraction is the top-notch performance of Brendan Fraser. The storyline is basically based on the attempt of reconnection of the English teacher Charlie (Brendan Fraser) to his estranged teenage daughter Ellie (Sadie Sink) before his death. Charlie is morbidly obese and will die in a few days and he left Ellie behind when he divorced his wife to live with his boyfriend. Maybe if the viewer goes to a hospital to spend some time will have more entertainment than watching this overrated film. My vote is five.

O Pacto (2023) – Um dos Melhores Filmes de 2023

Durante a guerra no Afeganistão, o sargento-líder John Kinley perde seu intérprete em uma operação em uma estrada. Ele seleciona o intérprete Ahmed como substituto e ele se junta ao seu grupo.

Logo Ahmed mostra que é leal e eficiente em seu trabalho.

Quando o Sarg. Kinley e sua equipe são designados para destruir explosivos do Talibã a 120 km de sua base, eles são bem sucedidos na missão, mas somente Sarg. Kinley e Ahmed sobrevivem ao ataque Talibã.

Agora eles precisam atravessar florestas e montanhas para voltarem a base americana. O Sarg. Kinley é ferido seriamente e Ahmed arrisca sua própria vida para levá-lo de volta para a sua base.

Quando o Sarg. Kinley acorda em um hospital nos Estados Unidos, ele descobre que Ahmed foi deixado para trás, apesar da promessa de receber visto americano para ele e para a sua família.

Agora Kinley fará qualquer coisa para trazer seu salvador e sua família para os Estados Unidos. Será que ele conseguirá?

“O Pacto” é, sem dúvida, um dos melhores filmes de 2023.

A história de lealdade é maravilhosa, especialmente quando o espectador está ciente da retirada das tropas americanas do Afeganistão em 2021, quando muitos afegãos foram assassinados pelo Talibã.

Este foi um dos momentos mais tristes do século XXI até o momento.

A trama é de algum modo inspirada em fatos reais e é ótimo ver como lealdade ainda existe no mundo atual.

O filme não é apenas dramático, mas também cheio de ação. Guy Ritchie, como usual, faz um trabalho magnífico. Minha nota é nove.

Guy Ritchie’s The Covenant (2023)

One of the Best Films of 2023

During the war in Afghanistan, Master Sergeant John Kinley (Jake Gyllenhaal) loses his interpreter in an operation on the road. He selects the interpreter Ahmed (Dar Salim) to be the replacement and join his team. Soon Ahmed shows that he is loyal and efficient in his work. When Sgt. Kinley and his team are assigned to destroy the Taliban’s explosives 120 km far from their base, they succeed in their mission but only Sgt. Kinley and Ahmed survive the Taliban’s attack. Now they need to cross woods and mountains to return to the American base. Sgt. Kinley is serious wounded and Ahmed risks his own life to bring him to the American base. When Sgt. Kinley wakes-up in a hospital in USA, he learns that Ahmed was left behind despite the promise of an American VISA to his family and him. Now Kinley will do anything to bring his savior and his family to America. Will he succeed?

“Guy Ritchie’s The Covenant” is one of the best films of 2023. The story of loyalty is amazing especially when the viewer is aware of the withdraw of the American troops in Afghanistan in 2021, when many Afghans was killed by the Taliban, in one of the saddest moments of the Twentieth Century. The plot is somehow inspired in real events and is nice to see how loyalty still exists in the present world. The film is not only dramatic, but also full of action. Guy Ritchie, as usual, does a magnificent job. My vote is nine.

Sobrenatural: A Porta Vermelha (2023) – Sequência Decepcionante

Dez anos atrás, Josh e Dalton Lambert são hipnotizados para esquecer a viagem astral deles para o depois do além (“Further”).

Nos dias atuais, Josh divorciou-se de Renai Lambert e não se dá com seu filho.

Durante o funeral de sua mãe Lorraine Lambert, Renai sugere a Josh que leve Dalton para a universidade para se reconectar com ele durante a viagem.

Entretanto, quando eles chegam ao dormitório, eles discutem e Josh volta para casa.

Dalton é um estudante de Artes e sua Professora Armagan pede aos estudantes para aprofundarem em seus medos interiores, e Dalton descobre uma porta vermelha.

Logo ele é assombrado por demônios do “Further”.

“Sobrenatural” (2010) é talvez o melhor filme de terror do século XXI. “Sobrenatural: A Porta Vermelha” é uma decepcionante sequência da história original.

O ritmo não é adequado e o roteiro é confuso e ruim. Impressionante com o garoto Ty Simpkins cresceu desde o primeiro filme se tornando um homem alto.

Mas infelizmente a trama é chata e previsível. Talvez a grande expectativa criada nos espectadores e fãs de “Sobrenatural” seja a culpada, pois é muito difícil conseguir um filme tão bom de novo.

O personagem Chris Winslow contribui para arruinar com o filme com suas brincadeiras fora de hora, acabando com a tensão das cenas. Minha nota é cinco.

Insidious: The Red Door (2023)

Disappointing Sequel

Ten years ago, Josh (Patrick Wilson) and Dalton Lambert (Ty Simpkins) are hypnotized to forget their astral voyage to the Further. On the present days, Josh has divorced Renai Lambert (Rose Byrne) and is estranged from his son. During the funeral of his mother Lorraine Lambert, Renai suggests Josh to drive Dalton to the university to reconnect with him during the journey. However, when they arrive at the dormitory, they have an argument and Josh returns home. Dalton is an Arts student and his Professor Armagan (Hiam Abbass) asks her students to go deeper in their inner fears and Dalton discovers a red door. Soon he is haunted by demons from the Further.

“Insidious“ (2010) is maybe the best horror movie of the Twentieth Century. “Insidious: The Red Door” is a disappoint sequel of the original story. The pace is not adequate and the screenplay is messy and not good. Impressive how Ty Simpkins has grown up since the first film and has become a tall man. But unfortunately, the plot is boring and predictable. Maybe the great expectation created in the viewers and fans of “Insidious” is to be blamed since it is very difficult to achieve to make such a great film again. The character Chris Willows helps to ruin the film with her inappropriate joke breaking the tension of the scenes.  My vote is five.

Prólogo: Um motorista tem uma grande surpresa com seu passageiro. (8)

Segmento 1 (“Time Out”): um homem preconceituoso odeia judeus, pretos e asiáticos. Um dia, ele viverá na Segunda Guerra Mundial, caçado pela KKK e atacado na Guerra do Vietnã.

Ótimo episódio com uma conclusão surpresa. (7).

Segmento 2 (“Kick the Can”): Em um asilo para idosos, os moradores aprendem que suas cabeças podem mantê-los jovens.

Episódio razoável apenas e homenagem à serie “Além da Imaginação”, episódio (3.21) – “Brincando de Criança”. (7)

Segmento 3 (“It´s a Good Life”): uma viajante bate na bicicleta de um garoto com seu carro e leva o garoto para casa. Logo ela descobre que o garoto é poderoso e que ele a trouxe para a casa dele na verdade.

Bom episódio, com uma conclusão boba e decepcionante. (7).

Segmento 4 (“Nightmare at 20,000 feet”): um escritor tem medo de voar e logo ele vê uma monstruosa criatura destruindo os motores do avião durante uma noite de tempestade.

Certamente o melhor episódio. (8).

Dividido em prólogo e quatro segmentos, “No Limite da Realidade” é um filme trágico e cult.

Trágico porque Vic Morrow, o inesquecível sargento Saunders da série “Combate” series, morreu em um estranho acidente quando um helicóptero caiu sobre ele e duas crianças durante a filmagem.

Dirigido por quatro grandes diretores – Joe Dante (segmento “It’s a Good Life”); John Landis (prólogo e segmento “Time Out”); George Miller (segmento “Nightmare at 20,000 Feet”); e Steven Spielberg (segmento “Kick the Can”)

– e grandes nomes no elenco – Vic Morrow, Dan Aykroyd, Albert Brooks, Kathleen Quinlan, John Lithgow entre muitos outros, “No Limite da Realidade” é altamente recomendado para fãs de terror e de ficção científica.

Eu revi este filme em uma fita da Warner e minha nota é sete.

Twilight Zone: The Movie (1983)

Tragic and Cult

Prologue: a driver has a big surprise with his passenger (8) Segment 1 (“Time Out”): a bigot man hates Jews, Black and Asian people. One day he will live in the World War II, hunted down by KKK and attacked in Vietnam War and feel the effects of his hatred. Good episode with a surprising conclusion (7). Segment 2 (“Kick the Can”): In a nursing home, the elder inhabitants learn that their minds can keep them young. Reasonable episode only and a great homage to “The Twilight Zone” series, with the remake of the episode (3.21) – “Kick the Can”.(6). Segment 3 (“It´s a Good Life”): a traveler hits a boy in a bicycle with her car and takes the boy home. Soon she learns that the powerful boy brought her home indeed. Good episode with a silly and disappointing conclusion (7). Segment 4 (“Nightmare at 20,000 feet”): a writer is scary to fly and soon he sees a monstrous creature destroying the airplane engines during a stormy night. Certainly, the best episode (8).

Divided in prologue and four segments, “Twilight Zone: The Movie” is a tragic and cult movie. Tragic since Vic Morrow, the unforgettable Sgt. Saunders of “Combat!” series, died in a weird accident when the helicopter crashed on him and two children while making a scene. Directed by four great directors – Joe Dante (segment “It’s a Good Life”); John Landis (prologue/segment “Time Out”); George Miller (segment “Nightmare at 20,000 Feet”); and Steven Spielberg (segment “Kick the Can”) – and with great names in the cast – Vic Morrow, Dan Aykroyd, Albert Brooks, Kathleen Quinlan, John Lithgow among many others, “Twilight Zone: The Movie” is highly recommended for fans of sci-fi and horror. My vote is seven.

TekWar: TekJustice (1994) – O Fim da Saga TekWar

Após receber um chamado telefônico, o tenente Winger e o detetive Prosco chegam ao escritório da Cosmo e encontram Bennett Sands morto por um tiro de choque.

Eles analisam a cena do crime e encontram 82% do DNA de Jake Cardigan, e logo Jake aparece e confessa o crime.

Seus amigos acreditam que ele está mentindo para proteger alguém, e Walter H. Bascom contrata o eficiente advogado adolescente Eugene Leopold para defendê-lo.

“TekJustice” é o último episódio da saga “Tekwar”, e talvez o melhor episódio.

A trama é previsível com relação ao por que Greg Cardigan está assumindo o crime e impedindo uma investigação mais profunda, mas tem muitos pontos de viradas.

Impressionante a visão de tecnologia de William Shatner para o século XXI, pois muitos artefatos previstos em suas novelas são realidade no mundo atual.

Eu revi este filme em uma fita rara da CIC e minha nota é sete.

TekWar: TekJustice (1994)

The End of the Saga TekWar

After receiving a phone call, Lieutenant Winger (Maurice Dean Wint) and Det. Prosco (Silvio Oliviero) arrive at the Cosmo office and find Bennett Sands shot dead. They analyze the crime scene and find 82% of the DNA of Jake Cardigan (Greg Evigan), and soon Jake appears and confesses the crime. His friends see that he is lying to protect someone, and Walter H. Bascom (William Shatner) hires the efficient teenager lawyer Eugene Leopold (Jacob Tierney) to defend him.

“TekWar: TekJustice” is the last episode of the saga “Tekwar” with maybe the best episode. The plot is predictable regarding why Greg Cardigan is assuming the crime and avoiding any further investigation, but has many twists. Impressive the view of the technology by William Shatner for the Twentieth-First Century, since many artifacts do really exist on the present days. My vote is seven.

Agora eles precisam encontrar o insano High Evolutionary para salvarem seu amigo. Mas ele está caçando Rocket para obter informação genéticas de seu cérebro.

“Guardiões da Galáxia Vol. 3” é uma história de amizade e de amor não-correspondido. Rocket é a estrela deste filme, e sua origem é contada em uma triste história.

Um outro ponto é o amor não-correspondido de Peter Quill por Gamora. O High Evolutionary é o vilão, com sua intenção de ser Deus e construir o mundo perfeito. Meu voto é sete.

The Story of Rocket

When Rocket is wounded by a surprising attack of Adam Warlock (Will Poulter), his friends find that he needs a special treatment from a corporation. They succeed to steal the treatment, but it is locked by a password. Now they need to find the insane the High Evolutionary (Chukwudi Iwuji) to save their friend. But he is hunting down Rocket to get genetic information from his brain.

“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” is a story of friendship and unrequited love. Rocket is the star of this film and his origins are told in a sad story. Another point is the unrequited love of Peter Quill for Gamora. The High Evolutionary is the villain, with his intention to be God and build the perfect world. My vote is seven.

Renfield – Dando o Sangue Pelo Chefe (2023) – Sangrento e Divertido

Em Nova Orleans, o servo do Conde Drácula, Renfield, procura ajuda em um grupo de apoio devido a sua codependência em seu mestre.

Neste meio tempo, ele procura por pessoas ruins e opressivas que ele descobre no grupo para alimentar o seu chefe.

Quando ele procura pelo escória Mitch, o cara e sua quadrilha acabaram de roubar drogas dos Los Lobos, uma quadrilha poderosa em NOLA.

Depois ele se depara com Tedward Lobo, que é o filho da líder de Los Lobos Bellafrancesca Lobo, e sua gang em um restaurante, e salva a policial incorruptível Rebecca, ajudando-a e lutando contra os bandidos.

Renfield é considerado um herói por Rebecca e pelos clientes, aumentando sua autoestima. Mas Drácula fica com raiva dele e se junta com Tedward e Bellafrancesca, para dominar o mundo com Los Lobos.

“Renfield – Dando o Sangue pelo Chefe” é um filme sangrento e divertido, apesar do título nacional, sobre o lacaio do Conde Drácula, Renfield.

A trama é uma combinação de comédia, ação e terror, e o resultado é excelente.

Nicolas Cage, como sempre, é excelente no papel do diabólico Conde Drácula. Nicholas Hoult, no papel de Renfield em crise de consciência, rouba o filme.

O sangue é excessivo, mas nunca assustador porque o exagero torna as cenas engraçadas. Meu Voto é sete.

In New Orleans, the servant of Count Dracula (Nicolas Cage), Renfield (Nicholas Hoult), seeks help in a support group for his codependency on his master. Meanwhile, he looks for bad and oppressive guys he learns in the group to feed his boss. When he looks for the scum Mitch (Dave Davis), the guy and his gang have just robbed drugs from the Los Lobos, a powerful gang in NOLA. Then he stumbles upon Tedward Lobo (Benjamin Schwartz), who is the son of the leader of Los Lobos Bellafrancesca Lobo (Shohreh Aghdashloo), and his gang in a restaurant and save the incorruptible police officer Rebecca (Awkwafina) and helps her, fighting the gangsters. Renfield is considered a hero, increasing his self-esteem. But Dracula becomes angry with him and teams up with Tedward and Bellafrancesca to take over the world with Los Lobos.

“Renfield” is a gory and funny movie about the minion of Count Dracula, Renfield. The plot is a combination of comedy, action and terror, and the result is excellent. Nicolas Cage, as usual, is excellent in the role of the evil Count Dracula. Nicholas Hoult, in the role of Renfield, steals the movie. The gore is excessive, but never scary, since the exaggeration makes the scenes funny. My vote is seven.

No Arizona, quando o assistente do xerife Daniel “Dan” Saxon é despedido após uma discussão com o xerife, que é corrupto, ele é recrutado pelo agente do promotor geral Conroy Price para trabalhar como agente infiltrado da gang de motociclistas Jackals.

Ele faz amizade com o mecânico Virgil, que o apresenta ao líder dos Jackals, Blood, usando o codinome Sid. Ele também tem um caso amoroso com a fotógrafa Renee, que o reconhece.

Agora Sid tem que estar preparado para cruzar a tênue linha entre a lei e a contravenção para convencer Blood que ele é um motociclista traficante de drogas e de armas.

“À Sombra de Um Disfarce” (1993) é um ótimo filme de ação e policial baseado em fatos reais.

“Rush”, de 1991, é mais dramático, mas também conta a história de um policial disfarçado que entra no submundo das drogas para prender criminosos, mas é um filme depressivo.

O roteiro de “À Sombra de Um Disfarce” mostra apenas Sid chegando ao fundo do poço da insanidade quando ele fica fora da lei, mas recupera sua sanidade quando ele vê o assassinato de uma asiática que trabalha em uma loja de conveniência.

A sexy Linda Fiorentino faz um ótimo par romântico com Charles Sheen.

Eu revi este filme em uma fita VHS e meu voto é sete.

Beyond the Law (1993)

Great Action-Police Story Based on True Events

In Arizona, when the Deputy Daniel “Dan” Saxon (Charlie Sheen) is fired after an argument with the corrupt Sheriff, he is recruited by the agent of the General Attorney Office Conroy Price (Courtney B. Vance) to work undercover in the bike gang Jackals. He befriends the mechanic Virgil (Leon Rippy) that introduces him to the Jackals’ leader Blood (Michael Madsen) using the alias Sid. He also has a love affair with the photographer Renee (Linda Fiorentino) that recognizes him. Now Sid has to be prepared to cross the thin line between the law and outlaw to convince Blood that he is a drug and dealer biker.

“Beyond the Law” (1993) is a great action-police story of an undercover cop and based on true events. “Rush” (1991) is a more dramatic and also tells the story of an undercover police officer that joins the underground of drugs to catch criminals, but is depressive. The screenplay of “Beyond the Law” shows only Sid reaching the bottom of the well of insanity when he is beyond the law, but he recovers his sanity when he sees the murder of and Asian-American worker in a convenience store. The sexy Linda Fiorentino makes a nice romantic pair with Charles Sheen. My vote is seven.

Witchtrap: A Noite das Bruxarias (1989) – Filme de Terror Malfeito

 

O empresário Devon Lauder contrata a investigadora paranormal Agnes Goldberg para ir com sua equipe para a pousada que ele herdou de seu diabólico tio Avery Lauter em um condado da Califórnia pois o local é assombrado.

Ele também contrata a agência de segurança do cético Murphy para proteger o grupo de Agnes.

Na chegada, eles se deparam com o estranho e forte jardineiro Elwin. Logo Agnes decide ter uma sessão espírita e imediatamente após, a técnica de vídeo Ginger Kowowski é morta no chuveiro.

Mas Murphy e seus homens acreditam que Elwin é o assassino. Contudo, logo eles descobrem que estão errados.

“Witchtrap – A Noite de Bruxaria” é um filme de terror malfeito de 1989 de Kevin Tenney, que também é o diretor do “A Noite dos Demônios” de 1988.

A trama não é tão ruim, mas as atuações amadoras, diálogos pobres e pavorosa iluminação acabam com o filme. A dublagem também é risível.

Infelizmente, Linnea Quigley e Kevin Tenney tem este filme terrível em suas filmografias após a ótima parceria no maravilhoso “A Noite dos Demônios”.

Eu vi este filme em um DVD da distribuidora Obras-Primas e minha nota é dois.

Lame Horror Movie

The entrepreneur Devon Lauder (Kevin S. Tenney) hires the paranormal investigator Agnes Goldberg (Judy Tatum) to go with her team to the inn he has inherited from his evil uncle Avery Lauter (J.P. Luebsen) in a county in California since the place is haunted. He also hires the security agency owned by the skeptical Murphy (Jack W. Thompson) to protect Agnes’s group. On the arrival, they stumble upon the weird and strong gardener Elwin (Hal Havins). Soon Agnes decides to have a séance, and immediately after, the video technician Ginger Kowowski (Linnea Quigley) is murdered in the shower, but Murphy and his men believe Elwin is the killer. But soon they learn that they are wrong.

“Witchtrap” (1989) is a lame horror movie by Kevin Tenney, who is also the director of the cult “Night of the Demons” from 1988. The plot is not so bad, but the amateurish performances, poor lines and awful lighting destroy the film. The dubbing is also laughable. Unfortunately, Linnea Quigley and Kevin Tenney have this terrible film in their filmography after the wonderful “Night of the Demons”. My vote is two.

Em Washington DC, o carente fazendeiro Cole Turner está vendendo os produtos da fazenda de seu pai na feira, com saudades da sua ex-namorada.

Inesperadamente, a bela negociante de arte Sadie Rhodes chega na barraca em frente querendo comprar uma flor, e Cole ajuda sua amiga feirante, que está ausente no momento.

Ele discute com Sadie, e quando sua amiga volta para a barraca, ela diz que sentiu uma tensão sexual na discussão deles e convence Cole a conversar com Sadie.

Ele segue Sadie, e eles passam o dia e a noite juntos, tendo um caso amoroso.

Quando Cole volta para casa, ele conta para sua família que está apaixonado por Sadie, e que enviou diversas mensagens para ela e que ela não o respondeu.

Seu GPS mostra que ela está em Londres, e sua família o convence para viajar para Londres para encontrá-la.

Ele viaja e logo descobre que Sadie não é uma negociante de arte, mas sim uma agente secreta da CIA do modo mais difícil.

“Ghosted – Sem Resposta” é um filme de aventura, ação e romance surpreendentemente bom, com Chris Evans e Ana de Armas nos papéis principais.

O casal mostra uma magnífica química e é engraçado ver a tensão sexual entre os dois nas cenas onde eles estão atuando.

Parece que críticos profissionais não concordam com a minha opinião, mas quem entende o que está dentro das cabeças (e dos bolsos) destas pessoas?

A mignon Ana de Armas como uma poderosa agente secreta e Chris Evans correndo com sua bagagem no Paquistão enquanto os bandidos estão atirando nele são cenas muito engraçadas. Meu voto é sete.

Ghosted (2023)

Great Chemistry and Adventure

In Washington DC, the needy farmer Cole Turner (Chris Evans) is selling the products from the farm of his father at the market missing his former girlfriend. Out of the blue, the gorgeous art dealer Sadie Rhodes (Ana de Armas) arrives wanting to buy a flower, and Cole helps his friend that is absent at the moment. He has an argument with Sadie and when his friend arrives back, she tells him that there was a sexual tension in the discussion of them and convinces Cole to talk to Sadie. He follows Sadie, and they spend the day and the night together and have one night stand. When Cole returns home, he tells his family that he is in love with her and has sent several messages to her and she has “ghosted”. His GPS shows that she is in London and his family convinces him to travel to London to meet her. He travels and soon he learns that Sadie is not an art dealer, but a CIA secret agent in the most difficult way.

“Ghosted” is a surprisingly great romance-action-adventure movie, with Chris Evans and Ana de Armas in the lead roles. The couple shows a magnificent chemistry and it is funny to see the sexual tension in the scenes where they are acting. It seems that there are professional critics that do not agree with my opinion, but who understand what is inside of the heads (and in the pockets) of these people. The mignon Ana de Armas as a powerful secret agent is great and Chris Evans running with his luggage in Pakistan while bad guys shoot at him is hilarious. My vote is seven.

Em um colégio interno católico, a estudante de segundo grau Melissa sofre bullying de seus colegas, que a chamam de Mouse (rato).

Melissa é órfã e é assombrada por pesadelos pavorosos com sua irmã Angela, e a irmã Gloria a trata com muita afeição.

Na noite de Halloween, o recém-chegado padre Bob autoriza os estudantes para organizarem uma festa de Halloween.

Mas um grupo de sete estudantes engana Melissa e vão para a notória Mansão Hull, que tem a fama de ser assombrada. Eles deixam Melissa no carro e se separam dentro da casa para terem sexo.

Mas a irmã de Melissa, Angela, os caça dentro de casa e transforma os jovens em demônios.

Contudo, Melissa foge da casa e alerta a irmã Gloria, que vai para a casa com ela. o cético padre Bob e dois outros adolescente para lutarem contra Angela e trazerem os adolescentes de volta.

“A Noite dos Demônios 2” é um filme de terror dos anos 90 com uma ótima storyline. Qualquer coisa que o espectador queira ver em um filme cult, A Noite dos Demônios 2 oferece.

Sangue e trash, belas garotas nuas, seios, cenas eróticas, cenas engraçadas e loucas, tais como uma freira usando artes marciais ou um adolescente usando uma arma de plástico e balões com água benta para lutar com os demônios, você consegue ver tudo isso neste filme.

Eu revi este filme em uma fita VHS da América Vídeo e meu voto é sete.

Na noite de Halloween, a estranha Angela convida oito amigos adolescentes para uma festa na notória Mansão Hull, que era uma mortuária e está abandonada.

Angela vai com sua melhor amiga Suzanne; Judy vai para o lugar remoto com seu paquera Jay e seus amigos Max e Frannie; seu ex-namorado Sal vai sem ser convidado; e Stooge vai com seus amigos Rodger e Helen.

Max conta para seus amigos que o muro da mansão foi construído sobre água corrente, para manter os espíritos presos do lado de dentro.

O grupo dança e festeja, e quando a energia acaba, eles trazem um espelho para fazer uma sessão espírita.

Logo, demônios são soltos e possuem Suzanne e Angela primeiramente no início de uma pavorosa noite de terror.

“A Noite dos Demônios” é um filme de terror cult de 1988, com uma história de demônios soltos após uma sessão espírita e dez adolescentes presos em uma casa abandonada na noite de Halloween.

A trama é boa e a maquiagem é impressionante em uma época na qual CGI não exstia. A conclusão é muito divertida.

O DVD lançado no Brasil pela distribuidora Obras Primas apresenta nos Extras uma entrevista com Amelia Kinkade em Johannesburg, África do Sul, que vale a pena ser vista.

Nesta entrevista, ela conta não apenas sua participação na trilogia “A Noite dos Demônios”, mas também sua vida escrevendo livros e defendendo animais, de um modo bem espirituoso. Meu voto é sete.

A Cult Horror Movie

On the Halloween night, the weird Angela (Amelia Kinkade) invites eight teenage friends to a party in the notorious and derelict Hull Mansion that was a mortuary. Angela goes with her best friend Suzanne (Linnea Quigley); Judy (Cathy Podewell) goes to the remote place with her date Jay (Lance Fenton) and their friends Max (Philip Tanzini) and Frannie (Jill Terashita); her former boyfriend Sal (Billy Gallo) crashes the party; and Stooge (Hal Havins) goes with his friends Rodger (Alvin Alexis) and Helen (Allison Barron). Max tells his friends that the walls of the mansion were built over streaming water to trap spirits inside. The group dance and party and when the power is gone, they bring a mirror to perform a séance. Soon demons are released and possess Suzanne and Angela first in the beginning of a dreadful night of terror.

“Night of the Demons” is a 1988 cult horror movie, with a story of demons released in a séance and ten teenagers trapped in an abandoned house. The plot is good and the make-up is impressive in a time that CGI did not exist. The conclusion is very funny. The DVD released in Brazil by Obras Primas distributor presents in the Extras an interview with Amelia Kinkade in Johannesburg, South Afrika, that is worthwhile watching. In this interview, she tells to the interviewer not only his participation in “Night of the Demons” trilogy, but also about her life writing books and defending animals in a free-spirited way. My vote is seven.

O Enviado do Mal (2017) – Filme de Terror Subavaliado

Mary faz o parto de gêmeos, mas um deles nasce morto. Seu marido, Jack, dá todo o apoio a ela, e quando ele nota que ela não está bem, ele leva Mary ao psicólogo, Dr. Neilson, mas ela mente para ele.

Mary não conta para o médico que tem alucinações e escuta vozes. Mary faz amizade com sua vizinha ao lado, Rachel, mas ela acredita que um demônio quer tomar seu filho recém-nascido.

“O Enviado do Mal” (2017) é um filme de terror canadense subavaliado, com uma história ambígua de uma jovem mãe traumatizada que acredita que um demônio quer raptar o seu filho

Christie Burke tem ótima atuação e convence como uma mulher que faz o parto e que fica louca devido a perda de um bebê.

A conclusão é sombria e o final aberto é um cliché de filmes de terror.

Eu vi este filme em um DVD da Flashstar, e meu voto é sete. Para variar, o título brasileiro é ridículo, pois Still Born significa Nascido Morto, que é perfeito para a trama.

Underrated Horror Movie

Mary (Christie Burke) delivers twins but one of them is stillborn. Her husband Jack (Jesse Moss) supports her and when he notes that she is not well, he takes Mary to the psychologist Dr. Neilson (Michael Ironside), but she lies to him. She does not tell that she has hallucinations and overhears voices. Mary befriends her next-door neighbor Rachel (Rebecca Olson) but she believes a demon wants to take her newborn son.

“Still/Born” (2017) is an underrated Canadian horror movie, with an ambiguous story of a traumatized young mother that believes a demon wants to kidnap her son. Christie Burke has a great performance and convinces as a woman delivering a baby that goes crazy due to the loss of a baby. The conclusion is dark and the open end a cliché of horror movies. My vote is seven.

Não Desligue (2016) – Tenso Filme de Baixo Orçamento Surpreendentemente Bom

 

Uma mulher chamada de Sra. Kolbein recebe um telefonema da polícia de madrugada dizendo para ela permanecer trancada em seu quarto pois dois homens perigosos estão dentro de sua casa.

Ela está sozinha com sua filha, e quando escuta um barulho do lado de fora de seu quarto, ela fica nervosa pois sua filha não está com ela, e deixa cair o celular debaixo de sua cama.

A pessoa ao telefone diz que é um trote. Os adolescentes Sam Fuller, Brady Mannion, Jeff Mosley e Roy “PrankMonkey69” celebram o trote cruel, pois ele postaram, viralizando e recebendo muitos likes.

Quando Sam está sozinho em casa, sentido a falta de sua ex-namorada Peyton Grey que trabalha entregando pizza, seu melhor amigo Brady vem visitá-lo.

Os jovens resolvem passar trotes, incluindo para o vizinho de Sam, Larry. Inesperadamente, o misterioso Sr. Lee telefona para eles, pedindo para eles não desligarem o telefone.

Após sucessivos telefonemas, eles descobrem que o Sr. Lee tem todas as informações sobre os dois, e eles dão atenção para ele.

Mais ainda, eles capturou os pais de Brady, no começo de uma noite tensa de revelações e de terror.

“Não Desligue!” é um filme tenso de baixo orçamento supreendentemente bom e subavaliado pelas críticas profissionais.

Trotes e golpes pelo telefone estão entre os usos mais irritantes do telefone, e os quatro adolescentes da história usam trotes cruéis esperando viralizar na Internet.

Suas brincadeiras cobram um preço a ser pago com suas vidas por um homem inteligente que perdeu as pessoas mais valiosas de sua vida.

Sua vingança é bem planejada e revelada em uma trama tensa a maior parte do tempo. A duração poderia ser um pouco mais curta, mas a conclusão é excelente.

De qualquer modo, este filme está acima da média, e há momentos que recorda o excelente “Mensageiro da Morte”, de 1979.

Eu vi este filme em um DVD da California e meu voto é sete.

Don’t Hang Up 2016

Tense and Surprisingly Good Low Budget Movie

A woman named Mrs. Kolbein (Sienna Guillory) receives a phone call from the police at dawn saying that she should stay locked in her room since two dangerous men are inside her house, where she is alone with her daughter. When she overhears noise outside the room, she becomes nervous since her daughter is not with her and she accidentally drops her cellphone below her bed. The caller says that it was a prank. The teenagers Sam Fuller (Gregg Sulkin), Brady Mannion (Garrett Clayton), Jeff Mosley (Jack Brett Anderson) and Roy “PrankMonkey69” (Edward Killingback) celebrate the cruel prank, since they posted it and received many likes, going viral. When Sam is home alone, missing his ex-girlfriend Peyton Grey (Bella Dayne) that works delivering pizza, his best friend Brady visits him. The pranksters decide to play pranks, including to his neighbor Larry (Robert Goodman). Out of the blue, the mysterious Mr. Lee (Philip Desmeules) calls them asking they to not hang up on him. After successive phone calls, they learn that Mr. Lee knows everything about them and they give attention to him. Further, he is holding Brady’s parents captive, in the beginning of a tense night of revelations and terror.

“Don’t Hang Up!” is a tense and surprisingly good low budget movie underrated in IMDb. Pranks and vishing are among the most irritating use of phones, and the four teenagers of the story use cruel pranks to post later expecting go viral in Internet. Their jokes give them a price to be paid with their lives by an intelligent man that lost the most valuable people in his life. His revenge is well-planned and disclosed in a tense plot most of the time. The running time could be a little shorter but the conclusion is excellent. Anyway, this film is above average, and there are moments that recalls the excellent “When a Stranger Calls” (1979). My vote is seven.

Freaky – No Corpo de um Assassino (2020) – Comédia de Terror Sangrenta e Violenta

Em Blissfield, o notório serial-killer The Butcher (O Açougueiro) mata quatro adolescentes de um modo violento na casa de um colecionador. Antes de deixar o local, ele rouba a antiga adaga La Dola.

Millie Kessler, que mora com sua mãe Coral Kessler, que é uma viúva alcoólatra, e com sua irmã mais velha Charlene “Char” Kessler, que é uma policial, é uma adolescente gentil e insegura que sofre bullying de seus colegas.

Seus únicos amigos são a negra Nyla Chones e o gay Josh Detmer, que estudam na mesma escola de segundo grau.

Eles ficam sabendo notícias do The Butcher, e após uma partida de futebol, Millie recusa a carona de Josh pois sua mãe ficou de vir buscá-la na escola.

Contudo, Coral bebe vinho e dorme no sofá, e Millie fica sozinha na rua esperando por ela. The Butcher vem para a escola e ataca Millie, esfaqueando seu ombro com La Dola, mas Char chega e salva sua irmã.

Na manhã seguinte, Millie e The Butcher descobrem que eles trocaram de corpos.

Millie encontra Nyla e Josh, e após pesquisarem, descobrem que Millie tem 24 horas para esfaquear The Butcher e trocarem de corpos de novo; senão, ela ficará presa para sempre em seu corpo.

“Freaky – No Corpo de Um Assassino” (2020) é uma comédia de terror sangrenta e violenta e uma das melhores surpresas recentes para aqueles que como eu assistirem sem grandes expectativas.

Este filme é uma combinação de slasher com comédia, mas sem humor negro.

O grande e hétero ator Vince Vaughn de 1.96 m de altura tem uma atuação fantástica no papel de uma adolescente tímida, com seus trejeitos e caretas.

A atriz de 1.65 m de altura Kathryn Newton tem também magnífica atuação, convencendo no papel de uma adolescente e com excelente química com Vince Vaughn.

A interação deles fornece as cenas mais engraçadas deste filme. Os efeitos especiais também são excelentes, com mortes violentas e muito sangue.

Eu vi este filme em um DVD da Universal e meu voto é sete.

Freaky (2020)

Gore and Violent Comedy of Horror

In Blissfield, the notorious serial-killer The Butcher (Vince Vaughn) kills four teenagers in a violent way in the house of a collector. Before leaving the place, he steals the ancient La Dola dagger. Millie Kessler (Kathryn Newton), who lives with her alcoholic widow mother Coral Kessler (Katie Finneran) and her older sister Charlene “Char” Kessler (Dana Drori) that is a police officer, is a gentle but insecure teenager that is bullied by her mates. Her only friends are the black Nyla Chones (Celeste O’Connor) and the gay Josh Detmer (Misha Osherovich) that study in the same high-school. They learn about The Butcher, and after the football game, Millie declines Josh’s offer of a ride home since her mother was supposed to take her home. However, Coral drinks wine and sleeps on the sofa and Millie stays alone on the street waiting for her. The Butcher comes to the high-school and attacks Millie, stabbing her shoulder with La Dola, but Char arrives and saves her sister. On the next morning, Millie and The Butcher learn that they have swapped bodies. Millie meets Nyla and Josh and their research show that she has twenty-four hours to stab The Butcher and swap bodies again; otherwise, she will be trapped forever in his body.

“Freaky” (2020) is a gore and violent comedy of horror and one of the best recent surprises for those like me that watched without any good expectation.  This film is a combination of a slasher with comedy but without dark humor. The great straight actor Vince Vaughn of 1.96 m height has a fantastic performance in the role of a shy teenage girl, with her gestures and grimaces. The 1.65 m height Kathryn Newton has also a magnificent performance, convincing that she is a teenager and not a young woman, and excellent chemistry with Vince Vaughn. Their interaction provides the funniest scenes of this film. The special effects are also top-notch, with violent murders and lots of gore. My vote is seven.

Borsalino & Cia (1974) – A Guerra de Gangsters

Em Marseille, após o funeral de seu melhor amigo e sócio François Capella, Roch Siffredi e seus homens capturam um gangster italiano, que conta que o assassinato foi ordenado pelo mafioso Giovanni Volpone.

Eles também descobrem que seu irmão está vindo para Marseille de trem, e seus homens interceptam o trem e atiram o irmão de Volpone nos trilhos.

As vinganças de Roch Siffredi e de Giovanni Volpone são impressionantes, especialmente aquela que força o inimigo a beber garrafas de bebidas. A conclusão promete uma sequência, que nunca veio.

Este filme foi originalmente lançado no Brasil pelo selo CinemaX, da Continental, e mais recentemente pela Versátil no box Filme-Noir Francês Vol. 5, embora “Borsalino e Cia.” não seja um filme noir. Meu voto é sete.

Borsalino and Co. (1974)

The War of Gangsters

In Marseille, after the funeral of his best friend and partner François Capella, Roch Siffredi (Alain Delon) and his gangsters capture an Italian gangster that tells that the hit was ordered by the mobster Giovanni Volpone (Riccardo Cucciolla). They also learn that his brother is coming to Marseille by train. Siffredi and his men intercept the train and throw Volpone’s brother on the rails. Soon Volpone kills Siffredi’s men, destroys his businesses, throws his right-hand Fernand (Lionel Vitrant) with a big stone into the sea and captures Siffredi that goes missing. He also uses his influence to replace Inspector Fanti (Daniel Ivernel) by the corrupt Inspector Cazenave (André Falcon). Fernand survives and looks for Siffredi, who is interned in a hospice. Siffredi flees from the asylum with the support of Fernand and they escape to Italy by boat. Years go by until a truck of Borsalino and Co. travels to Marseille with Siffredi, Fernand and their new gang. Retribution is coming.

“Borsalino and Co.” is the sequel of the 1970 “Borsaline”, also directed by Jacques Deray with a story full of action of war of gangsters. The revenges of Roch Siffredi and Giovanni Volpone are impressive, especially the one to force the enemy to drink bottles of booze. The conclusion promises a sequel that never happened. My vote is seven.

The Flash (2023) – O Efeito Borboleta

Barry Allen está esperando pelo julgamento do recurso de seu pai Henry Allen que está preso, acusado de matar sua mãe Nora Allen;

Barry se lembra que Nora esqueceu de comprar uma lata de molho de tomate e que Henry foi ao supermercado comprar o molho de tomate.

Quando Henry chegou em casa, Nora estava morta na cozinha e ele foi acusado de ser o assassino.

Barry decide viajar para o passado e colocar a lata faltante no carrinho de compras de Nora. Sua ação afeta não apenas o futuro de sua família, mas também o destino de toda a Terra.

“The Flash” (2023) é uma aventura muito divertida, baseada no efeito borboleta.

Barry Allen não conhece a Teoria do Caos, que estabelece que uma pequena modificação na condição inicial pode resultar em grandes modificações no futuro.

A simples modificação de colocar uma lata de molho de tomate no carrinho de sua mãe no supermercado modifica todo o futuro na Terra.

A homenagem à antigos Super-Homens e a inclusão de Nicolas Cage na lista é uma grande sacada. A surpreendente conclusão com George Clooney é excelente. Meu voto é sete.

The Flash (2023)

The Butterfly Effect

Barry Allen (Ezra Miller) is waiting for the judgment of the appeal of his father Henry Allen (Ron Livingston), who is imprisoned, accused of murdering his mother Nora Allen (Maribel Verdú). Barry recalls that Nora forgot to buy a crushed tomato can and Henry went to the supermarket to buy the tomato. When Henry returned home, Nora was murdered in the kitchen and he was accused of being the killer. Barry decides to travel to the past and put the missing can inside Nora’s cart. His action affects not only the future of his family, but also the fate of the entire Earth.

“The Flash” (2023) is a highly entertaining adventure based on the butterfly effect. Barry Allen is not aware of the Chaos Theory that states that a minor modification on the initial condition may result in large modifications in the future. The simple modification of putting a crushed tomato can in the cart of his mother in the supermarket changes all the future on Earth. The homage to the past Supermen and the inclusion of Nicolas Cage in the list is a great moment. The surprising conclusion with George Clooney is excellent. My vote is seven.

Quando a técnica de som Beth descobre que está grávida, ela viaja para Los Angeles para passar um tempo com sua irmã Ellie.

Ela chega de surpresa de noite e descobre que Ellie se separou de seu marido Jay e que está vivendo sozinha com seus três filhos, mas que eles vão ter que se mudar do apartamento pois seu prédio está condenado.

Ellie pede aos filhos Bridget, Danny e Kassie para comprarem pizza para o jantar, enquanto ela conversa com Beth sobre as novidades.

Quando eles voltam, há um intenso terremoto que abre um buraco na garagem. Danny encontra um livro assustador e três discos de vinil em um cofre e traz com ele em sua mochila.

Quando ele escuta os dois primeiros disco, ele invoca uma força diabólica que possui o corpo de sua mãe, no início de uma noite de terror assustadora e sangrenta.

“A Morte do Demônio – A Ascensão” (2023) é um bom filme de terror da franquia “Evil Dead”.

A trama retorna aos dois primeiros filmes de Sam Raimi, com violência e sangue, e sem brincadeiras, piadas ou situações engraçadas.

A atmosfera é assustadora, em um prédio abandonado com poucos moradores, e a maquiagem e os efeitos especiais são pavorosos.

A bela Alyssa Sutherland é vista sem glamour e com maquiagem assustadora. O início do filme indica que a franquia não irá parar e logo virá uma sequência. Meu voto é sete.

Evil Dead Rise (2023)

Creepy and Gore Night

When the sound technician Beth (Lily Sullivan) finds that she is pregnant, she travels to Los Angeles to stay a period with her sister Ellie (Alyssa Sutherland). When she arrives by surprise at night, she learns that Ellie has divorced her husband Jay and is living alone with her three children, but they need to move from her apartment since the building is condemned. Ellie sends the children Bridget (Gabrielle Echols), Danny (Morgan Davies) and Kassie (Nell Fisher) to buy pizza for dinner while she talks to Beth about the news. When they return, there is a severe earthquake that opens a hole on the bottom of the garage. Danny finds a creepy book and three vinyl discs in a vault and brings with him in his backpack. When he listens to the two first records, he summons an evil force that possesses Ellie in the beginning of a creepy and gore night of terror.

“Evil Dead Rise” (2023) is a good horror movie from the franchise “Evil Dead”. The plot returns to the first two movies by Sam Raimi, with violence and gore and no jokes or funny situations. The atmosphere is frightening, in an abandoned building with a few dwellers, and the make-up and special effects are horrifying. The beautiful Alyssa Sutherland is seeing without any glamour and scary make-up. The beginning of the film indicates that the franchise will not stop and a sequel will come. My vote is seven.
